Modding Tutorial for Visual Learners
~~By Ramaraunt

If your the type that likes watching video tutorials, this may be for you. I've decided to make a short series that explains the basics of mod development in Warband. Its probably not the best quality tutorial you have ever seen, but it should be easy to understand. And, its a lot easier to watch a video series than search for hours to find that one forum post that contains the information you are looking for.

Not only is this a guide on how to mod, but each video contains helpful links in the description that links you to useful things like third party programs and other resources.

I'm mostly done filming this series now, I have explained enough that the rest is easy to figure out on your own.

You can watch the playlist on youtube here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVxZTlahRxY&list=PLhFb0GIWPTXBsQ9QkXYkL71hHgNx1OtTc

If this series was helpful to you, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! Every little bit counts. You can also donate to me at http://ramarauntdonationsite.site88.net/donations.html, but this bit is hardly necessary.

If you are looking to get into modding, and you want to work with me as your personal tutor, please contact me via PM! I am a busy person, but I might be able to help you with your problems. I'm also working on personal projects, like a mod for bannerlord called Carnage, Brother on Brother. If you want to help me with this, please say so! Link to the mod: https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,351526.0.html.

Also, on my channel you can find several other series that help with other topics, some of them having to do slightly with modding. A list of them can be found bellow:

This. is. needed.(For new modders, mainly, but still.)
Keep it going, and don't stop after the setup!

EDIT: Noticed that you stopped talking a few times and then just went onto the next point; next time, just take your time and explain everything you want to explain, people watching your videos will apreciate it. You could also try to take a few notes on paper on what you want to cover before you start recording so your video has a better structure.

nice, ive added your vids, so that i can watch them later. ive pretty much got no idea where to start with modding, just an idea and a dream. so will watch your vids as long as you make them, and will be continuing to learn of the forums. cheers

Thank you for the feedback! I'm not the best at Youtube, I'm sorry. But I will try my best to improve.

I just released a new video, begging to explain the process of making campaign maps.

Thank you for the feedback!

Remember to PM a moderator to move this to the Tutorial Subforum. With enough videos you should get a sticky too

No need for the pm, i do visit the forge  But as per somebody's original request i leave topics in the spotlight of the main forge area for a while before moving them.

Anyways - good luck with the series. Let's hope there will be a bunch of videos

Well, I've decided to restart. I didn't like the quality of the videos I've produced so far, and I want to aim for better.

I'm getting over my head in this, about to give up on modding. Its getting way too complicated.

You can always check with the Q&A, if you need help. Or take some time off, if you feel this is too stressful.

if you are new to modding and in special to Warband modding:

baby steps, baby steps

go small, do small things, keep going, soon you will have a cool mod

start big, get lost, go crazy, no mod

I decided to get back into it! I made a video explaining how to set up your main.bmp.

Next, campaign maps!

I would LOVE to talk to someone with modding experience on my ts, I have some questions that need to be answered for this series.

Your welcome, and good luck with your mod!

EDIT: And I could use help with my mod btw. Find it here! https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,351526.0.html

Videos coming soon, that explain the process of making a model for warband, texturing it, and implementing it into the game! Will also make a video covering OSPs.

If you still need a hand, add me on Steam. My username is [FI2] Maroon. My experience mainly lies with using brfs, creating textures and models, but I know quite a bit of the general process of making a mod from my time with FI2.

Thanks maroon, but i just figured out how to use BRFs on my own. Vid released about it!

I'm trying to make a diagram of the module system. Can someone confirm to me if this is right? Do I have any mistakes?

its a good start.

My suggestion is to include a list (text) with full description of each file, and the image with whatever is the most important for you.

A example: module_parties.py: its not only for static parties. In fact, the player party is the first one created there. Static is just a option. This file is used to defined "non dynamic" parties for a new game, while the templates are used for "dynamic" parties. It also includes a "hack" for fake parties used only for internal calculation (battle casualities, etc). There is no technical restriction here, you could, as a example, create all lords parties on module_parties (they would not be removable anymore, but you would be able to active/deactive them), among other things

Maybe something like:
Img -> Module_parties: location map objects (new game)
List -> Module_parties: player army, towns/villages/castles, special locations (traning, mines, etc), bridges, special map icons, spawn points for bandits, fake parties for internal calculation, etc. Applied on a new game, can't be deleted with "(remove_party, <party_id>)," and can be manipulated with other operations (on, off, change location/name/faction, etc)

The module system explained (further)
