I think if people want to 'Train' they should be able to go to a trainer like in the tutorial and practice. This should be the 2nd best way to get skill ups with weapons. (1st best way of course being through combat).
As for training up troops, bring them to a trainer and pay the trainer to teach them. Perhaps a trainer can only teach up to tier 3 troops, beyond that they need real combat experience to get better.
The Arena should be a place to practice those skills and gain money still getting xp but at a reduced rate.
On as side note, please remove the randomly joining fighters from the area. I understand this is a staple within M&B but not all things are worthy to bring forward.
Instead of randomly joining fighter, please have mock battles and tournaments where their is no prize to win at the end like a horse or weapon or anything. But you gain some coin for every tier you complete and if you win then you get your 250.
Doing this helps people practice formations and for the tournaments.
The mock battles could be right outside the front gates with people looking on from the city walls.
NOTE: If your wrecking face in tournaments or just think the game is way to easy, chances are you set your difficulty to easy or your just sitting in some of the best armor you can buy. But I think its more the first of the two for most people.
