It is actually quite better balanced, the bayonet is still as powerfull as MM, just you have more options now.  :smile:

In all essence, people don't like change, and I would hardly call our combat system anything like WFAS, or mainstream.

It's really a pity that you are not willing to listen.
I will just say a couple of words to the wind then, while I am the only player on the eu official servers now at 5am, wanting to play this game.
I will tell you the story of Mr.A.

Mr.A gets shot by a guy who doesn't even know how to switch to melee mode, Mr.A dies, Mr.A press Esc, clicks "quit", clicks "back", clicks "exit", goes to play a competitive game.

Now I will tell you another story, the story of Mr.B.

Mr.B is a musician in NW! Now he logs-in, he spawns, and he is glad to see a group of 4 musicians in front of him. He runs towards them, he jumps twice, he goes next to the drummer, a guy with big mustaches and a black scary beard, he starts playing his flute.

*finishes to write the second story, looks at the server list again: he is still the only person on the eu servers*

1) servers tend to be unpopulated at 5am around the world period since most people have a ******** life.
2) That wasn't a superficial reply, Vince has already stated that the aim was to try and balance things thereby making the game accessible to everyone and increasing the size of the player base.
3) -removed the zoom option To avoid the impulse of excessive sniper battles for which muskets where not tailored to. (made up for it by adding spyglass for officers)
4) -decreased character turn speed. To limit lolspins.
5) Bayonets are a little OP at the moment which most players feel is the case but that it was part of the balancing process which we hope will be fine tuned somewhere down the line.

Most of these issues have been discussed about a hundred times in various threads across two different forums and yet everyone still expects to be debriefed like a ******** Major-General. Perhaps someone should put up a FAQ and sticky it. If MM is your preference then by all means play MM. I personally appreciate the balance of NW as a new comer to the series and that's saying a lot sine I hated melee across the board in Warband MP.


In any case I am looking forward to some people actually starting a MP mod for this DLC that will experiment with various wishlist combat mechanics.
 
Both have their ups and downs, but the artillery controls in MM would make me choose it over NW. It's nice to have canister and all that, but now that everyone and their mother can play artillery easily it just isn't that fun.

Yeh picked up arty in NW way too easily, it was more fun playing a tank in RO2 with 2 people, one person driving the other manning the cannon and screaming at one another over ts ... that was fun, but being given a riticule and it hitting the same place practically every shot ... not as good.

We nearly got shot in a lb with cannon yesturday, but my only quarms were the aiming, no primary shots just a tertiary one that passed right down our line and missed everyone fortunatly (Thank god for disorganisation ... its a life saver really), now in MM that would hardly happen, it would usually hit on 2nd or 3rd shot ... now you have to constantly keep tabs on the arty no matter where they are and just hide behind hills until they look away for a long period of time.
 
I honestly like the arty reticle. It allows for easy range-finding. And also, it doesn't take much to out-wit a gunner. All you have to do is keep moving and try to break the LoS between you and his cannon. With a howitzer: just run straight at them. The faster you close the distance, the more they have to compensate for the higher arc, thus giving you even more time.

Everyone complains about how the arty "is too good". It takes no more than a quick tactical thought and a fast acting officer to whip everyone into a safe place.
 
Napoleonic Wars is dumbed down?

Do tell of the other wide array of napoleonic action games that include morale, speed, accuracy and momentum in calculations to sway the outcome of a battle.

Or maybe all those third person infantry games that have 250 players working together? Yeah all those games that have innacurate muskets, completley designed for a niche market.

Oh wait.

I like NW, the ridiculous randomization of the bullet in MM meant you could pointblank a line with your line and miss everyone. In NW that doesnt happen. Also when all the regiment switched to NW EVERYONE had to re adjust to Melee. people who were good in MM obviously adjusted quicker but it is far more balanced now, only think i hate is my ping is still **** and i get massive lag spikes on TDM servers when people spawn. Even with my ping and lag spike i can get a higher score than people who have constant 40 ping or so. but yeah NW is better balanced, MM is less balanced thus it takes more time to get good at.

The cannon and bayonet system has been improved
and just looks hammer.
Simply put, it is an Excellent game  :mrgreen:

I am quite confused to see that you dislike whatever we changed on the melee system, if you voted for it or not... It just does not make any sense.

So next time we just won't change it at all, becouse votes do not catch the majoritys will? That would be stupid.. Sorry about that, but I really really do not understand you.
We changed it to your liking and now you are complaining. As vince already said, I think the problem is, that you simply dislike whatever we changed...
 
I don't think anyone dislikes it as such (or very few people), the most complaints I've seen have been leveled at its reach/power rather than its inclusion. I love overheads they are the great equalizer :grin:
 
Graphics very good , but I have FPS lag, which I didn't had in MM.
Muskets look great but, reload speed is to fast.
All new players shoot only, I get shot a lot.
Melee is good since I use sword as commander, but bayonet overstab to strong.
Maps to bushy, but is adventage as light infantry.
Cavalry very nice looking, but to slow.
People are taking musican to only play music and waste a lot of time.
Some battle maps are really nice, but some are to big (Ardennes).
At linebattles you cant kill all people because bayonet overstab is to overpowered.

We changed it to your liking and now you are complaining. As vince already said, I think the problem is, that you simply dislike whatever we changed...

But on a serious note I must of been out of the office I call my bedroom that day. Overhead stab dosn't bother me at all ... makes me feint more now which is what I need to practise in Native ... but would still prefer the overhead slam to the skull.

Your using "You" like you know exactly how that person voted, what if they voted for no ... are they still in the "You" or the "They"?

Still funny to feint your way across the battlefield or doing the right step stab through a server ... ah the new and old days ... such joy :wink:
 
I find feints (as they currently are) rather annoying... and dishonorable... Lol I jest I just suck at dealing with feinters to the point were I no longer bother to block much and just side step and stab to get it in first.....  :grin:

I go by the rule of stab first ask questions later, if a feinter is going for me if you hit him first you've won, so if you know he will feint you jab ... he gets a nasty blow whilst your laugh at him fall flat on his face.

I don't block at all ... I go for lucky/timed chambers and getting my stab in first, or letting the enemy walk into my thrust ... which is quite funny ... oh and dodging, so much easier to dodge bayonetes in NW than Native ... Native has a horrible hammerhead spear thing going where it still hits you to the left and right of the spear head that would miss in NW.

About 2:40 shows the sort of armour used at Agincourt before the specially hardened steel of Verneuil. I did get my ranges wrong and Longbows were only head on effective at just 20m against plate armour ... but chainmail stood little chances at longer ranges.
 
Yeah definitely, it also keeps the bugger busy with having to actually block or commit to a counter blow.
 
Napoleonic Wars is better, ofcourse.. Gameplay and graphics. Though, it's not drastically better than Mount & Musket. M&M was a tremendous acheivement and no matter how great the DLC becomes, it cannot take away from the fact that M&M was a mod that punched well above it's weight!
