missing troops in garison

I had 396 troops in one of my 2 forts. Im off doing some stuff for a while and I come back and theres only 197. Is there something Im missing here?
 
Did your fort get attacked?

There was also a thread describing how your faction's marshal could come by and steal some of your troops out of a garrison if you had "too many," but I don't remember the details.

200 troops all mid to high level and Im left with peasants, freemen, and spearmen. I'll be looking for a tweak to end that. That's pure bs

WTF is this true? Surely no1 would put a terrible feature like that in a game?

Well looks like ill be cheating to even the game out, seriously who the hell thought of that, no player would ever agree with a feature like that. If we want to handicap ourself we would just release our troops.
 
If you just want to gather troops for later, you should just build and expand a refuge (up to 250 men). I think those are safe from greedy marshals.

Ill chew through 250 troops lol, I already use the refuge never noticed any troops missing from my towns garrison but that is only at 200 men atm.

Time Crtl + Clicking to refresh my troops when this happens. Anyone worked out a tweak to remove this. Im looking at you Karahalan  :cool: haha.

EDIT: I knew Karlahan would have one haha your a f****** legend haha  anyone else interested its here http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,327228.15.html  Also explains it was a feature left from Brytenwalda, makes sense for that mod because it was a lot more forgiving plus you could have patrols roaming about which allows you to effectively have a bigger garrison

Anyone who trys the tweak Karahan did say it is untested so Im not sure how it will work lol
 
Well, marshal levies troops from any center whose garrison is above what is supported by prosperity, so if prosperity is 50, the max garrison is 500.
That affects everyone, player or AI lord. Player is more susceptible since he/she always stuffs 1500 troops into a single castle. If marshal has enough troops, he won't do anything.

Not sure what's the big deal is, I've ever seen this happen once to me, don't stuff everyone into the same place, spread them around. Alternatively, we can add player's holdings to a soft cap list which AI is subject to.
 
I have only 2 forts and my troops were appropriated while I was capturing the other. prior to having 396 troops in the garrison, I had 200 and it was captured by a force of 1200. A king and 3 of his top lords. not to mention the marshal took my top troops and left me with scrubs. In 1.04 the casualty numbers when defending against a seize has been 1 to 1 for me so I guess Im suppose to just keep recapturing the same fort over and over since I can't keep a standing force in it and theres no way Im leaving any heavy or mid troops in there just to be plucked. All my forts will be composed of washer women and beggars.

2. after the capture the castle prosperity is very low, but even at prosperity 20 the garrison allowed is 260
3. you're supposed to fill your castles with rabble (historically correct too).
4. fight and destroy lords first, then start taking their castles

Maybe I didn't explain it well. I originally had 1 fort which I had 200 in, which got seized by a force of 1200. Once I recaptured it I doubled the amount of troops in it thinking with that and my personal army which I could temporally swell to 260, I could at least get them to abandon the seize. While I was capturing a different fort was when my original fort got fleeced. So there was really no where to spread my troops around. I truly wouldn't give a rats behind about the fort except there is a direct correlation between owning centers and amount of troops in my moving army. I'll try it this way for awhile and see.

Ok so you had 200, lost the fort, recaptured and made garrison 400? Do I read it correctly? If the fort was recaptured several times it's prosperity is probably 0, and therefore have a protected cap of 100 or so. So, yes in that case you lost probably close to 200 troops.

You can add your troops to troop camps. While you're paying full wages for your soldiers, at least you're not going to lose them to greedy marshal.

Well i just defeated an army of 1500. One week later possibly two the same faction with exactly the same lords came back with another 1500. The AI seem to replenish troops out of nowhere even if i cheated and tele around the map (without hiring bandits) i could not possibly recruit that amount. The only way to compete is to stockpile troops. I know you say use your factions AI Lords but the problem is none of them have any troops.

You mentioned the "troop camp" but how safe is that? That sounds fair you can stockpile but you cant have the "discounted troops"

It should be safe, mine was never attacked. Your refuge can be attacked though.

How many lords? Lords can get up to 50 troops per hiring (sometimes abit more) and they should have money for that. That happens once a day, so yes they should be able to raise an army in 1 week.
