Recruit
I did a search and didn't see any posts about the military people that are on these forums. Anybody here in the service or has been at one time? I will start.

Service: US ARMY Active Duty
Unit: C 6/9 Cav 3rd BDE 1st Cavalry Division
Job: 19D Cavalry Scout
Years in Service: 2004-Present

i got shell shock  we experienced hell out there and afterwards what did we get??? free refreshments!?! only one biscuit per person  we are the unsung heroes of this nation

I went to a military academy, but I was kicked out for multiple mental instabilities, and severe 'episodes' of violence (I don't like to be woken up early)

I'm now marked, and deemed unfit to join any military enterprise. Bring on the draft baby! I'll dodge that **** like a foam ball

I personally am not in any military service but, most of my friends are.

Tj is in the marines and is currently in his 4th tour in Iraq.
Jeremy is also in the marines but, is in the reserves (though still in Iraq).
Eddie in the National Guard and almost called to Iraq.
Jon is in Army reserves and goes to Iraq later this year.

I hate this war. It is giving me nothing to do. All joking aside though, I am scared to death for them especially Tj who (being a driver) runs over mines at least once every couple of days.

No replies from any of our numerous finnish posters? I find this surprising as we do have a near-compulsory military service ranging from 6 months to 1 year.

Anyhow I'm a tired signal(is this the correct term?) corporal in reserve from the finnish airforce.

I don't know much about ranks in the U.S. so I know absolutely nothing of the finnish system. However, "tired signal" sounds like "sleepy attention getter". Like I said, I don't know anything about the finnish system but, that doesn't quite sound right to me.

Just signal, like a sort of a radio person. The tired part just comes from the lack of much physically demanding training while in the service.

I've been toying with the idea of serving in the army as a dog trainer/handler for years (been down to my local army recruitment place, read the pamphlets, etc) but as I do not fare well in the heat (sun stroke and heat stroke at the drop of a hat) I figure I best wait until all this Iraq stuff is over, or at least wait until Britain invades somewhere a bit cooler.... say, Antarctica. Yeah, those Antarcticans, real buggers, terrorists for sure.

Either that or be a dog handler with the police. I think either one would be as fun.

Kelpo: Ok. That makes sense. Like I said, I'm not familiar with any sort of military jargon so I was just saying how it sounded to me. I am also pretty tired so maybe I didn't exactly put it together in my head to well. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your service. All my military friends signed on for like 8 years and started to despise it after like 4 months out of boot camp.

i was in the us army signal corps in the early 70's and stationed mostly in karlsruhe in what was at the time west germany - i was a 31M and was an honorably discharged pfc and received a special commendation from the west german army - i saw quite a bit of europe while i was there and had a great time ....

whats the need for fin's to be drafted? its not like your at war on all fronts ?

I really dont seem the need for it, unless no one volunteers.
