Hmmm. Just thought of an old game that M&B reminds me of a lot, that would make a great mod - Lords of Midnight by Mike Singleton.
A mod would be fairly simple I think, the map would have to be changed and be more snowy, but I think most of the weapons and armour are OK. Towns would be replaced by keeps, citadels and villages (each with a different option of what to do in them, recruiting troops in keeps and citadels, resting and trading in villages and so on), and you could probably put henges and lakes in there too.
Two factions, basically - the Fair and the Foul. Not quite sure if the warriors of the Foul were humans at all, but there would be other creatures like Skullkrin and Trolls to be put in. Hell, here's a site with all the background info on...
