Another Mongol mod!

This mod is based on the Mongol Invasion of the Middle-East. Through a time period where Mongols are not the only faction to fear at the height of their empire, balancing strength in each faction, with only a strong leader to take control of deserts, forests, plains, as well as snowy areas in the medieval map of the middle east from modern day Turkey to India.

Factions presented:

Mongol Empire
Kipchak Khanate
Mamluk Sultanate
Ghaznavid Empire
Rajput Kingdom
Seljuk Empire

Factions left out:

Kingdom of Jerusalem* [Do not want to work on europian-influenced factions]
Ghorid Sultanate [Too close to Ghaznavid]
Turkish Sultanate [Combined with Seljuk Empire]
Kingdom of Georgia [Not enough space between Kipchaks and Seljuk Turks]
Delhi Sultanate [Combined with Rajput Kingdom]
Kingdom of Armenia [Not enough space for the faction]
Byzantine Empire [Not enough space for the faction]

Faction Summary:

The Mongol Empire were experts with the bow, cavalry, and heavy cavalry at the same time. So it is in this mod, no one can intimidate them when it comes to hard steppe warfare and at the height of their invasion.

The Kipchak Khanate, although simular to the Mongols, are experts with bows and cavalry, however the use of axe's was widley known, most kipchaks were white-skinned - think of Russians, same location.

The Mamluk Sultanate took a great part in the Mongol's defeat in expansion, historically with the Kipchaks help, however not in this mod. They are heavily armored on foot, lightly armored but very deadly in cavalry.

Ghaznavid Empire - added for balance primarily, i had a choice of a few other factions but chose the Ghaznavids. They are a great anti-cavalry force. With the use of spears and long spears, a phalanx formation makes for a good faction to border the Mongol's invasion, however not undefeatable.

Rajput Kingdom is an all-Hindu faction united under one banner of the Raj of India, with thick dense forests for cover they were historically not an invading-type of nation however the mod differs. With Indias good use of elephants, i wouldnt worry about breaking enemy battle formations.

The Seljuks are a combination of all Turkish forces in the area, great with light cavalry, bows, and swords. Before the Mongols, the Seljuks were to fear.

The great thing about mongol mods, there's never enough, and there's never an end!

Anyone willing to help would be great, this is just gonna take longer on my own.

This will be the official thread of its progress, more organized.

* If anyone wants to help by doing most of the work for the Kingdom of Jerusalem then it will be added, but i wont.

Hm. Interesting. While another one is already coming out, this one looks promising as well. Which one to play, that is the question? Only time will tell.

Just kidding, good luck, it looks good

So this is set in the Khanates period yes? There was no more Mongol Empire at this time though. There was only Kipchak Khanate (Ulus of Jochi/Altan Urag/Golden Horde), Ilkhanid Dynasty (In Persia under Temur), Chagatai Khanate (In Central-Asia), and the Yuan Dynasty (In China under Kublai). The Mamluks themselves were Kipchaks btw =/

Also, Khan = Leader, Khagan = Great Khan, Amir = Persian title (Temur historically prefered to be called Amir instead of Khan)

 can use all the help i can get, and since this mod has been postponed until the other Mongol mod is finished, plenty of time to edit and for new ideas.

Here's what ive found

Kipchaks were a confederation of pastoralists and warriors of Turkic origin, known in Russian and Ukrainian as Polovtsy, who lived in yurts (felt tents) and who came from the region of the River Irtysh. Some tribes of the Kipchak confederation probably originated near the Chinese borders and, after having moved into western Siberia by the 9th century, migrated further west into the Trans-Volga.

with that in mind, then the Kipchaks should either be renamed to Kipchak Confederacy, or the mongols be replaced by the standing faction of the Khanates.. i guess it depends on the year i plan to base this on. as well as the mamluks or the ayyubid sultanate.

Heh no problem

Ulus of Jochi (Official name) = Golden Horde (Western name) = Kipchak Khanate (Scholar name). During the time of the divided Khanates period - the leaders of the Khanate were Mongol, but the warriors were majority Kipchak Turks and Turco-Mongol Tatars. Remaining Mongols were mostly Turkified, thats why the Khanates were known as Turco-Mongol not just Mongol following the passing of Ogedei Khan.

Here's some pictures of Turco-Mongol warriors under the Kipchak Khanate with armor and weaponry:

Mongol Empire
Kipchak Khanate

If you are going to make Mongol Empire, then there shouldn't be separate Kipchaks faction, as the territory (Great Steppe) was a part of Mongol Empire.

Seljuk Empire

Great Seljuq Empire ceased to exist in 1194. How about Ottoman Empire?

Ghaznavid Empire

Ghaznavid Empire ceased to exist in 1187. How about Il Khanate?

Rajput Kingdom

Should be Delhi Sultanate.

Kingdom of Georgia [Not enough space between Kipchaks and Seljuk Turks]
Kingdom of Armenia [Not enough space for the faction]

Give them to Turks

-

Faction idea: China

most kipchaks were white-skinned - think of Russians, same location.

Kipchaks were (and are) Turkic, not white. Russians are Slavs.

After doing some more research these territories and factions need a total overall arrangement and rename.

Kipchaks must be changed, probably binding them with the mongol empire.

Ghazni must be changed.... not sure which faction though.

Rajputs must be changed. Delhi Sultanate does sound correct.

I still have an issue with replacing the seljuks with the ottoman empire because i am not so sure that is correct in the time period im thinking of.

Mamluks may need a rename; Ayyubid sultanate

why would china be a faction?

thanks for your input!

Okay, I have no idea what time period you're setting this in.  But the Song pretty much fought the Mongols until 1279, what happened was the Jin empire got conquered by the Mongols, who took control of northern China and maintained uneasy relations with the Southern Song. They spent two decades doing sporadic warfare, until Kublai Khan's armies conquered the Song Dynasty in 1279. China was unified again under the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 136:cool:.

Before this, in short...Mongols invaded Jin, but they attacked Jin more then once, they attacked with Genghis Kahn and then again way later.  The western Xia pretty much got raped in the face but the Mongols had to turn back at some point because they had to engage against egyptian mumluks (sp)

Having the song dynasty, or even the Jin would work depending on your time zones.  The Mongols hit everyone basically after their first successful invasion against the chin.  Besides, the chinese had used gunpowder by 1270 or something, so it could be interesting if you did add them. xD

I cant fit China with a middle eastern map, it's much too big the game will crash. If i tried sizing it down, the map would look all ****ed up. So im leaving asia out for this one, perhaps we could work on an eastern asia version as well

This time period is set out to start when the Mongols headed to conquer the middle-east in 1250. So any factions of that time period are to be placed.

Ottoman Empire: 1299 – 1923; too late
Great Seljuk Empire: 1037 – 1194; too early

;I need a faction that was in the same location as the ottomans and seljuks (from modern day Turkey to Iran), but on the same timescale of 1250 or close to that period.

Here is a possible map (and faction adjustment):
13thcenturyMideastmap.jpg

A problem with this time period is that there were area's (like arabia) that weren't controlled by one, predominant faction. These are just some major ones. These are all of the 13th century, before they were conquered by Ghengis Khan.
