Microsoft Foundation Classes

I use wx-devcpp at home. For class, my prof is doing a brief introduction of MFC at the end of this semester. Anyone here know if I have to use Visual Studios if I want to write something using MFC? As a student I should be able to get Visual Studios Pro for free, but I hadn't bothered to migrate.
