Mesh .rsf formats? What are the character maps for?

Users who are viewing this thread

Well, I've taken a look at the mesh .rsf files, and I fairly well understand everything save the character maps. What are they used for?

Also, when extracted from the .rsf files, what format are the models in?

for your second question;
Armaðan said that he and his wife modeled the models using blender so maybe (i'm not sure what kind of format blender has) rsf files are some kinda blender formats. But i think i found something. I didn't compare these two format but i think that Armaðan has removed the header part of the blender file and tadaa here is rsf is that true Armaðan??

Or rsfs are entirely new format. But i think they're not. (because i'm a game programmer also and many game programmers do their format with this way but on the other hand some kinda programmers like Armaðan and me (i think Armaðan, not sure) write entirely new file format for their game. ) Anyway Armaðan if there is something kinda headers can you give it to me via mail. So i can write a converter if there is not one.
Cheers.

.rsf is our own binary resource format. I don't recommend messing with them since they are too difficult to work with. We'll eventually release exporters for 3DS Max and Blender so you will be able to create them.

Well, I've already mostly figured them out. I'm just wondering what format the models packed in the .rsf files are in. And what the character maps in the files are for (though that may be explained by the previous question's answer).

I work full time as a software developer, binary files don't scare me :)

They are in our own -as yet undocumented- mesh format. ;)

Anyway, knowing it won't be too useful since you'll need to use the exporters to create them anyway. You can write your own exporter of course, but why bother?
