Merging mods

Hi everyone. I have just downloaded a set of mods, created by others(and 100% more talented people than i am) and would like to enhance my experience by merging them(for my own use only).
Is there an easy to use editor, or tool or even some kind of tutorial to do this?

Going to be hard to do unless the set of changes was exhaustively documented by the authors.... you never know if you'll miss some crucial trigger here or there that might break the whole thing, or a variable name conflict, or other such nastiness.

Possible, but not easy, I'd say.
