Mercenary heartbeat quests

I have few questions involving the mercenary heartbeat quests for castles.

1. Does anyone know exact troop numbers you get?
2. Is there anyway to make them happen more often?
3. Can you get troops from say barclay or mettenheim if you have negetive relations with them?
4. What's the best way to gain positive relations with the factions?

On a side not, do barclay mercs spawn in certain towns more often?

Thanks in advance!

I'm talking about minor factions, which is what this whole topic is basically about.

Also I chose not to do this as I was hoping for more than just quick answers, but some in depth specific stuff with discussion, but i didn't want to spam that thread, I assumed that would annoy moderators.

I was hoping this could be a bigger discussion on mercenary quests. Not just these few questions. I didn't know this would anger anyone.

Don't worry about it. I'm also interested.

I had a Jatu Mecenary company show up at my castle even though I was at around -20 relations with the Jatu. I'm not sure if that's because the Jatu Mercs are separate from the Jatu though.

ps. they came with a Warlord!! I really hope to get more mercs to see what awesome units I can assign as my personal bodyguards in battle

Well I've heard Veccavia mercs need negetive relations with Veccavia to hire so maybe it's the same for Jatu. But I don't know about the others, coz yet have the same troops as the "faction' where as the Jatu are specially 'Jatu Mercs'. I hope that makes sense.
How many troops did you get from them?

I'm really hoping to get barclay in particular. They're expensive, but great in sieges and look cool  the first is important for when you declare sovereign, because holding that one castle is all that matters.

1. Not sure really, I think by paying extra you get around 50 units of melee and ranged, and a couple of the "elite" ones
2. Don't think so
3. Probably yeah, I think the positive relations are only for those special war parties (or negative for those renegades)
4. Only real way is helping them in battle unfortuntely, would like a bit more, but I guess they're just really minor factions in Pendor.

And I don't think Barclay prefer any taverns.

Well since this now has a topic, I'd like to ask a question of my own. What does everyone like to pick for mercs? I love me those Barclay sappers, but those Mettenheim Hauptmann when they hit the walls man, just cleaving through people.

Well for me (if I had them all readily available) Rouge knights: they're hard hitting, only one rank up from the 'recruit', and reliable compared to the ones with origin names (southern, foreign)
Barclay footmen/sappers: never had more than 30 in total, but very good in sieges.

Also, don't Mettenheim troops get slaughtered by the archers by their lack of shields?
And aren't they hard to acquire? (Mett troops in general)

50 is ok I guess for 12 grand seeing as they are mercs that aren't always available. Just wish it could happen more often, I've never had it happen.

Heartbeat is different from Mercenary. Heartbeat is purely random and if you give them more money, you get a few more guy.

I'm slightly confused as to what you mean here. Sorry  :???:
All I was asking was if there is a relation between which troops can turn up at your castle eg: if I am negetive with a faction, say Jatu, can there mercs not turn up, like they dislike me or something. But I got an answer to that already. I was also curious as to how many troops you get from them and which troops. Thats all

If you are talking about Heartbeat quest, it does not even have anything to do with relation. Just random event. You get something like 100 troops, while 80-85 are crappy, about 15-20 are better. They will be added to your castle-town garrison. Paying more get you something like 20 more troops, mostly crap still.

Mercenary however, you pay for what you get, so you get something like 150+ to 200+ troops, as a unique spawn move around on its own. The mercenary you hire will get better troops than heartbeat quest. Must have positive relation with minor faction to hire their mercenary.

Ok then thanks

I'm a little confused though: when you say crappy, what do you mean? Some merc groups don't even have upgrade lines; they're always top tier.

Even if you have negative relations with a faction you can still get those troop types as part of the heartbeat quests. They're mercenaries, they don't give a hoot about what the main faction thinks of you.

For the mercs you hire as ruler of a kingdom, some of them require certain opinions by the main faction. Such as the Veccavi renegades requiring you to have negative relations with the Daughters of Persinoe.

Ok, I pretty much wasn't sure if troops from heratbeat quests counted as that faction. Thankyou for clearing that up
