I never got any of that, most of my history classes are pretty anti-American, actually.

WW2 in school here is: Nazis were bad guys, they killed people. Allies were good guys, they freed people. Allies killed Nazis. Allies are heroes. Nazis are dead and evil.

The winner of the war decides what is shown and told on the world.

Most historians tend to try to be impartial. For example, if it were the case that winners have total control over which history is displayed there would never be any bad stuff about victorious countries that haven't lost. This goes counter to people who denounce the atomic bombings as a war crime, that the Iraq invasion as unjustified, that Great Britain and its private enterprises committed widespread atrocities over a great part of the world, or the treatment of first peoples in the America and Oceana by the new formed governments there was a long tale of atrocity.

History is not written by governmental employees. They are written by historians who are in most part often employed by universities,  private enterprises, and  are often funded by the sale of literature or exhibitions. Governmental employed historians are far and in between, they tend not to hold much sway in countries that allow a wide berth in the form of free speech, and these, as you may note, are the ones who won WWII. And so to conclude, it's not the case that the winner tends to write history. But it is often the case that the winner decides who gets prosecuted though since they tend to have the surviving judicial branch.

Yeah, a real darling, that one.
A racist, a bigot in general and his ideology is an interesting mix between fascism, nationalism, chauvinism and conservatism.

War memoirs are "nice." I've a book that is a collection of bits & pieces of letters from soviet soldiers from winter war. I'd heard all about how our brave soldiers kicked the seven shades of **** out of a far larger and superior army before, but it was interesting to hear it from the perspective of random rank & file dewds of the opposing side. Largely it was being ordered to commit indirect mass suicide by completely incompetent officers(the competent ones had been mostly killed in Stalin's political cleansings) and freezing to death because they didn't have proper winter gear.

One part was particularly interesting. Some soviet patrol came across what remained of a supply convoy of theirs. Apart from destroyd vehicles, killed soldiers and stolen supplies were these women of the military personnel(not probably soldiers IIRC) who were hanging upside down from trees, dead and quite likely raped. They were stripped naked and had their tits cut out, so that on their chest were two bloody red stars. Made me look at our veterans in a different way.
