Sergeant Knight at Arms
First of all, yes this is an imitation of Ludial's Archer Appreciation Thread. And yes, I have a reason other then wanting some easy posts for putting this thread up.

Due to my illogical hatred of all things holding a bow, and the recent surge in love for the damn snow-eating, fur-wearing Vaegir archers or pony-loving horse archers, (damn how I hate thee... *mutter mutter mutter*) I decided its about time someone rallied some fellow melee nutters.

Yes YOU! You over there with the great axe! You over there with the bastard sword! You holding the mace! You with the lance! Be it a two hander, one hander, shield or no shield! From the lowliest quarter staff to the longest pike, the rustiest falchion to that shiney masterwork sword of war! We need you friend!

So regale us with stories of that lucky sword parry, that heart stopping moment where you took a knight off his horse with a single spear-thrust, or even better when you got past the arrow/bolt storm and brought forth some large, pointy, sharp implement of death and caught that one persistent archer offguard! Come on, Come all!  :D

I recently fought off a small detachment of Khergits alone with my Military Scythe, Steel shield and Arming sword, first turning them piece by piece into n infantry army, and then finishing them off one by one. All hail the masters Lichtenauer and Fiore and the Holy Scripture called I:33!!

Yay!

Balanced Greataxe rules! So does the masterwork strongbow! Lance is not so bad either! Nor is heavy hunter!

(Long Live Choice!)

A fellow adept of the Military Scythe, eh?

Well met, sir.

Real men use melee weapons. Only girly wussy types use bows, long pointy sticks, and shields.

You dare call the Macedonians and the Spartans.... girly wussies? HERETIC, YOU SHALL BURN.

Nothing like when I found myself face to face with a bunch of high tiers in a mod...I then proceeded to kill them all in one blow each with my trusty balanced arming sword!  Felt good when I killed a straggler too.

You over there with the bastard sword!
MEEEEEEEEEE
favorite parts are when I manage to kill both a horse and its rider with me sword when they charge past me(the timing of the dodge and strike have to be almost perfect 8-) ); or when I manage to lunge below an overhead swing or before a side swing and cut their throat(fast weapons FTW!); or when some archer tries to shoot at me own people/crossbowman gets up after reloading, and I just run past them and cut their throat! Or when some Nord is trying to get me, and I just cut his throat the moment he brings his axe up to hit me; or when a Swad kneggit is wading through my archers and I just keep chopping his back to pieces; best part is when the buggers lose their horse

Oooh, cutting through horses and riders together is FUN. That's the best part of having a big sword.

I should fight on foot more often, mix it up with the boys on the ground.

Not if I hit them with my sword of war first.
Of course, he could turn you into a skewer on the barbecue long before you ever touch him with a sword of war...

The immense satisfaction of swinging a sword (or in my case, great axe) through both horse and rider has already been mentioned. Another wonderful thing is when the enemy, who outnumbers you by at least five to one, is surging up the ladder to your walls, and you're standing at the top. Not right in front of the ladder, no, but just off to the side, behind a crenellation, where no arrow can hit you. As soon as the reach the top, down goes the axe! Pictures can say more than words, so here's two. Damage is at full, difficulty at 101% (not sure where the 1% comes from ... oh well).

This is what it looks like when you're doing it:

And this is what the results look like:

When you're killing them like this, it's not about skill. It's like you're working on an assembly line. Lift the axe up, bring it down again. Repeat again and again and again.

Can't go wrong with a pole axe! It beats even the pike at anticavalry! Instead of stabbing the horse, you flail that thing violently and the horse goes down within moments!

Even shorter, so... Failure is imminent.

Anyways, Real Men can kill all day and not show any hint of tiredness

Real Men take on all comers and live, no matter how many

Real Men have no fear of heights

And Real Men can fight just as good without a shield as they can with one.

I must say I use the arming sword more often, but yes, for this character that kind of glaive was wat I wanted. You don't use all the prongs on a glaive, I'd rather have that the weapon I use has any semblance as to its real world alternative.

Poleaxe/Glaive/Military Scythe + Reinforced Heavy Board Shield + Balanced Short Arming Sword.

I end up looking like a Rhodok Sergeant half the time with that kit. Made more awesome by the Eagle banner in tEatRC.

I assume you've changed the military scythe to swing from any angle.  It makes a ton more sense than how it is unmodded.

I myself use the Military Scythe, an Old Heater Shield, a Sniper Crossbow, and Bolts.  I need the crossbow for those pesky Khergits, and I really only need the military scythe as a melee weapon.  I used the glaive back in the day, but I always prayed for a slightly toned-down version that could be used with a shield.  I was fortunate.

Hmm... Yep, I'm one of those "things holding a bow" but I still decice to come here. Just because melee too can be much fun. As I remember that one of the most wonderful moments I have had in M&B was in melee. Most of them are of course related to bow but this one: Yeah, well... I were really clever and deciced to make "cavalry charge" (me with five companions) to Swadian army that was holding position, in order to get them charge enough far to be shot by my Vaegir Marksmen. Well, in first second my got cut down and I noticed that I had like thirty stupid Swadians aroud ready to kill me... Well, I started "retreating" and it took some time for them to destroy my shield... And after that I had nice time trying to block attacks with my masterwork nordic sword. Well, it seemed to be soon over as I would get cut down but suddenly behind my back charged eighty angry Vaegir Marksmen. Well, they slaughtered all Swadians in few seconds and saved me... Well, atleast once it was good that I gave them wrong order.
