Medieval: Total War

Anyone else a fan?  I hated the second one, as it was even less historical than the original (which didn't do too bad a job).  Never done online play -- if I can get it to work on my PC perhaps we should get a game going.

I rather enjoy the second one, with mods that improve its historical realism aspect, like Stainless Steel and Broken Crescent.

I like it, although I do prefer RTW because of the era but I still think M2TW is good fun, the campaign has a lot to be desired though, I find it very repetitive althoguh I did attempt to beat it only to fail miserably when I came face to face with the Timurids. Here's some advice for anyone who hasn't yet, do not choose England.

I enjoyed MTW for a while however I was only waiting for RTW to come out while I was playing it .
MTW2 is much more enjoyable in respect to the battling.

Your entitled to your own flawed opinion .

The battles in MTW weren't necessarily worse, however the sieges were pathetic at best.
On M2TW you can get your troops on the walls, rather than behind them .

This is true. I can't grasp what makes MII:TW's combat so.... terribly ****ed up, but it just is. It's really unenjoyable.

I think it could be because most of the factions are clones of one another so there is really little to differentiate the prime troops uses.
It's quite irritating that part is, not to mention the fact knights are so common yet useless.
The main issue is the fighting usually takes forever infantry vs infantry yet as soon as a cavalry unit farts next to some spearmen, they run away.

Yes, yes it is/does. Cavalry are actually useful with SS.

The french are using massed calvalry charges against me, well, one of their stacks does anyways. Crushed my already weakened stack since I did not have enough spearmen.

Well, the original game is messed up on my PC.  I originally installed it and the expack, then tried to run it.  Gave me some option about using some player so I hit yes -- decided to make the noise for the Total War logo video but no video -- then stops responding.  Done everything, reinstalled, patched, cleared registry -- everything.  Nothing fixes it.

I loved it back before RTW came out. I've never really been able to get back into it after that. It's just too clunky, and I really prefer the new map system. It's less confusing (I'm a slob, so I'd have game pieces all over the place) and more logical.

Got the same problem with mine, I guess it's possibly because the newer versions of XP don't work with it....

I actually prefer the old gamesystem, where the battles don't consist for 90+% of sieges. Tedious, repetitive sieges.

That is a good point, even if sieges are better, it's no excuse to make that the only real fighting you do.

Can anyone get this to run with modern hardware?  I can play D1 well ffs, but this just gives me a black screen when launched -- I hear the "total war" sound, then it just dies and stays a black screen.
