Was anyone else a bit jarred by the, er, "prominent" codpieces on some of those harnesses?

You should see the landsknechts. You haven't seen a prominent codpiece until you've seen a Landsknecht.
Oh, yeah, those guys knew how to overcompensate.

I believe there was a thread on it on MyArmoury. That's where I got the pics.
I have this picture of the armet besides the overall pic of the harness. You can notice the gilded links of mail at the edges of the aventail.

Damn, those seem to be the only good ones of the armour. I've seen a few pix of him jousting in it, but nothing as good.

ehmm... is this loin area telescopic? I mean, in case he get an erection in the middle of the battle? or is this just a shutter so he could pee?

Easier to rape when you don't have to take of the armour + it looks more rapist-soldier-like.

Ok, in all seriousness...
If I remember correctly, the, uh, "Erection of Steel" there serves as a codpiece, so that enemies won't be able to easily make a cheap shot at whoever's wearing the armor.
In short, it's armor for your balls.

With all due respect, and i really appreciate labor thou, these heavy armor is not seem to be useful. With all that encumbering weight. I highly doubt that any man fight. No matter how trained they are... It is very limiting.
And since 16. YY armors seem to be inpenetrable they are quite weak in contrast of hollywood. It does stop most of cut weapons but Unlike an peasant arrow, Composit bows that Turks (other tucoman tribes such as huns, cuman etc and some eastern) made Create force more than average Longbow, while it is still small and usable on horse, easily penetrate it.
Furthermore Swords may not injure wearer but weapon like mace, morning star or gurz hit it and even armor doesnt damaged or even distorted, hit can kill wearer. more heavy armor more energy transfere. Not even to mention poor fellows on horse, it doesnt even have to be sharp, A durable wood with right angle can be devasting since horse on charge or even those that are not galloping cannot manovrable while carring 200 KG ,including horse armor,
Say, if you train both guy armored and leather or even just shielded guy, always but always armored one fails.
Plate Armor were created to protect noble blood from "weak ranged weapon" so they did their purpose but they are clumsy and worth fortunes since harnessed armors or plates generally made for person .

Sorry but you are wrong on several points.
Armour stops attacks.
Period.
Good plate is not heavy, or cumbersome, it restricts movement very little if at all. I could stand in front of you in full cap a pie harness and allow you to hit me with a longsword, pollaxe, dagger and I would not be afraid of you hurting me as long as you did not strike at the armpit, back of the knee, palms of my hands, occulars ect.
This is proven by both metallurgy and dozens of German and Italian fight manuals telling us to not even try to strike blows against plate with poleaxes but to instead go for the areas I mentioned above.
The shield went away, because armour could stop a full blow.
