Day 2
Level 1
Health 49
Ironflesh 2, powerstrike 2, shield 1, one-handed weapons 77.
Weapon: 1-handed sabre, swing 39c.
Armor: Crude leather jacket +14 body, crude skullcap with nodeguard +69 head
Damage to player option : normal
Faced 18 mountain bandits. Immediately died in 1 hit from a spear in melee combat that did 114 damage.
Reloaded, died 2 hits - 39 dmg, 32 damage.
Reloaded, died 3 hits, 29, 15, 32 dmg.
Reloaded and found 17 looters. I took down 8 in a row with 1-2 hits per kill doing between 30 and 55 damage per hit before dying in roughly 3 hits.
Reloaded and fought the same 17 guys. Took out 15 in a row before they all ran away. Sword was doing between 30 and 55 damage per hit. Anything over 45ish appeared to be a 1-shot kill.
Reloaded and found a tournament. Fought one on one against a guy with a one handed sword. Died 1 hit, 96 damage. Again, died 58 damage, again 69 damage. For these guys I could hardly get a hit on them as they kept feinting over and over (I have Doghotel's brainy bots disabled and the feint chance set to zero, with poor AI). When I did hit against their iron helm it was doing 0 or 1 damage.
I think it's just broken.
Edit: The disparity between the head and chest armor is huge. I wonder if this mod has really emphasized the importance of armor far more than in native? This would explain why my hits to unarmored faces are killing so easily, why my hits against armored heads are doing so little and why hits against my relatively poorly armored body are doing so much.
Doing 30 damage per hit is perfectly normal in this mod, going up to 50+ if hit in the head or if hit with enough balance, which at low level means you (or the enemy) are screwed because at level 1 you have 49 hp
This mod DOES emphasize the armor you and the enemy wear, because that is what is historically correct. Only blunt of piercing weapons can do any reliable damage to armored enemies. When I am fighting on foot (if my horse dies xD) nearly all the enemy sword attacks deal 5 damage max because I have 60-70 body armor, but that also means that when I'm fighting enemy lords or high level cavalry my sword won't do s***, hardly reaching 20 damage per hit.
My tip to you is get armor and a good weapon, if you want to go ranged pick a crossbow for lower levels because it WILL deal the damage you want, bows are not as effective in this game unless you are fighting low level enemies or you have an extremely high power draw and archery skill. Vs armor in melee always go piercing at the least, or blunt if you want to deal damage.
Here is some math taken from the module.ini:
# RCM values - This is the amount of damage directly subtracted from due to armor
armor_soak_factor_against_cut = 0.98
armor_soak_factor_against_pierce = 0.85
armor_soak_factor_against_blunt = 0.80
# RCM values - This is the percentage of damage decreased
armor_reduction_factor_against_cut = 0.5
armor_reduction_factor_against_pierce = 0
armor_reduction_factor_against_blunt = 0
What this means is, roughly explained, Cutting weapons (aka sword's swing attacks) will deal no damage vs armor, while blunt weapons will deal the most. Neither pierce nor blunt damage is further reduced after the first subtraction, so even if the blunt damage is lower than the cutting damage from a sword in theory (and ingame) the blunt weapon will still deal more damage vs armored enemies.
So again... buy armor, and do not worry about killing everybody in one hit, once you start dealing with enemy lords' armies you will have a "real" challenge
