The Mount & Blade Modding Contest - December 2018
Theme: Menu Illustrations
Theme: Menu Illustrations
Welcome to the December contest. We're back to 2D art again, and this time around, the focus is on menu illustrations, without which the game's menus would certainly be a lot less flavourful! All too frequently, however, mods end up using vanilla menu art. Let's expand the pool of available illustrations, and have a contest in the process!

Theme: Menu illustrations
Submission Start Date: December 1st 2018 00:00 GMT
Submission End Date: December 31st 2018 23:59 GMT
Rules:
- You may only submit your work during the submission time period specified above.
- Submit only your original work. Derivatives of other works are not allowed, and neither is theft (obviously).
- One illustration will be counted as a single submission. You may submit as many works as you want.
- In the event of multiple submissions by a single user, the final score awarded will be the best one out of all submissions.
- Submissions must include the source file with all layers present (.psd or similar), a game-ready texture file (.dds), and a quick preview image (.jpg/.png). In addition, you must denote which menu(s) your submission would be a good complement to.
- You may create artwork for any menu, whether it has art in Native or not.
- The illustrations must be within the theme of any of the following titles: Mount & Blade, Mount & Blade: Warband, Mount & Blade: Warband - Napoleonic Wars, Mount & Blade: Warband - Viking Conquest or Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword.
- By submitting your work to the contest, you agree that it will be shared as open source with all the submissions at the end of the contest, according to the open source license provided here.
Evaluation System
The submissions will be evaluated using the familar point-based system, based on their performance in the following three categories: Visual Quality, Originality and Creativity, and OSP Value. Once the submission end date is reached and the submissions are closed, the judges will review the submissions. Each judge will award up to 10 points for each category.
Further information about the categories:
- Visual Quality - The overall visual appeal of a submission, including whether an appropriate resolution was used for the exported texture file.
- Originality and Applicability - The use of original visuals that are nonetheless a good match for the selected menus. In other words, if your submission happens to be very similar to one of the existing pieces, except the guy with the axe looks more like a Swadian Knight, you'll probably get a lower score.
- OSP Value - How useful the resulting submission would be to a modder aspiring to use it. Using more widely applicable themes (e.g. depicting Rhodok-looking, yet unspecified soldiers instead of, say, an Edo period samurai for a combat encounter menu; or depicting a generic castle instead of the Tower of London for a castle menu) is likely to improve your score in this category.
Judging Committee
The judging committee is comprised of two talented artists:
