Max Army Size and Morale - Easy to change in scripts.txt

Users who are viewing this thread

is this for the current version ( 1.003 ) because the script is NOT the same as for the quotes where to change it which is horrible for me that don't got what to change due it for older version ( ? )a

It was originally for an older version but it still works for 1.003, you just have to find the same numbers in the different script

It's mostly the same, just a few differences.

One of these days I'll get around to updating it to be the 1.003 script in the example.

Weird when i have changed the Base max party from 10 to 600 and going to save it says /c programs/ Mount & Blade/Module/native/scripts.txt can't be found and it will not be changed in any way !

Me 2 but maybe its because i use vista? Could that be. cus, i cant use export either.

Just a quick note
a) thanks, this is great, the morale was really bugging me, and
b) it's still bugging me because I can't get it to work.

1.003, I'm sure I followed all the instructions right, the party-size limit altered, but not the morale.  So I can have xxxx soldiers but am getting deducted for all of them.  I'm pretty sure though that I got the heroes bit right and am not getting a penalty for them.

I'm going to paste back in my back-up and try editing it again, because I'm fairly certain it's something to do with me, it usually is, I just thought I'd bring it up, on the off chance anyone else was having a similar problem.

I wanted to be able to command larger armies, so I peeked in the scripts.txt file and found the ones that set them. Even without the source, it's easily changed. I then realised with my larger army sizes, morale was horrible. So I changed that too. Heres the scripts and what you need to change. You'll have to open scripts.txt in the native folder, find the appropriate script, and change the right numbers.

Just to clarify, if I make these changes do I also need to change the lords party size to stop them having less men than my new larger armies?

Yea. When I first made this tweak the lord parties weren't correctly limited, so they ballooned out of proportion. In the newer versions that is fixed, and they are limited by the same rules that you are - except for a bonus they get based on your character level (which seems silly to me, but I guess it's a way for them to scale to your level - since you can get lots of extra renown and increase your troop amounts faster than them, plus you're a death machine at high levels).

Old instrustions work fine in 1.011. Just save old file and carefully look to see if you are changing the right numbers.

Heh, you can already get a ridiculous number of troops from villages. All you have to do is get their loyalty up high. With 99 loyalty you can pull 25-35 or so troops out every couple days.

How do you get high loyalty with villages?

Nope, this is only for you.

The size of Lord parties are in party_get_ideal_size. Here it is:

party_get_ideal_size -1

The lime green 30 is the base party size. The first red number is the bonus per point of leadership that lords get (default is 5, same as for you), the second is the amount of renown needed per extra troop - also the same as for you. You could tweak the first up or the second down to increase AI lord parties. The blue number is the bonus that kings get for being kings - 100 default, which is why they run with larger parties.

The limit is then modified by player level. The way this works is it takes the player's level plus 90, divided by 90, then multiplied into the limit. The two yellow 90's are this section. You could increase the first 90 to basically increase the player's level when used for the equation. If you make it 100, then it would be like having 10 levels above what you actually are. You could also reduce or increase the effect of the player's level by changing both numbers. At 90, they increase the limit by 1.11% per player level. If you upped them both to 200, for example, it would reduce that to 0.5% per player level. If you reduced them both to 10, it would make that a whopping 10% per player level.

Effectively this is just the maximum party size for the lords, they'll still need time to recruit troops and grow to the new number.

Are AI Lords affected by Morale considerations as well?

This tweak is so wonderful! An additional question:

How do you mod the neutral parties so that they too increase in size?

jesus cand find any of thoose text in the script file..i got ****ing sick of searcinh

oh found the party zise limit but cand find the morale thing

I'll assume you're using notepad: Hit ctrl+F, then paste the following into the search box

get_player_party_morale_values

It appears only once in scripts.txt so there shouldn't be any problems. If you aren't using notepad then the search command might be different, but I can't imagine a text editor being less functional than notepad.

Hmm, I have 1.10 but the Demo from steam, although I bought the game from Gamer's Gate, and anyways, I changed the troop limit and morale and did everything correctly. It even says that I can have 5000 people in my army. However, when I try to recruit more people, it says I've hit the limit at 137 troops. Any advice?

This is a really awesome post.  I could only read to about page 6 so I hope this has not been covered.. But it would be really great if someone could make a mod out of this to cover Troop size, Food, Moral and there pay.  Or even a zip with the files that need to be changed.  I am assuming all this works with the newest version as well.  I think something that made each food group have about 5 times as much to it would be great and make the price between two and three times as much. Perhaps, Even have a "Food Wagon" that could follow you or something like that.. I think that would be a bit harder to do but would be very cool. Then anything for moral.  I agree with the person who said "Safety in numbers" but im not sure how well that would work with the game.  The pay, I'm not sure about.  You don't expect a army of 300 to be dirt cheap.. But you need to be able to keep up with the pay with what you can make in the game.  Maybe being able to support an army of 300 by having a few castles and some towns..  But then you would have to go to each town.. What if once a week the money from your towns was just given to you, no matter where you are.  Getting it just before you have to pay your troops would be wonderful.. I don't know how hard that would be to do though.  If all this could be put in to one mod or something where you just overwrite the files I think it would be very very popular. I hope someone works on something like this.  It is well out of my league to do anything like this.  I killed the game last night trying to install a mod that had an installer with it.  Now I am reinstalling.   Opps.
