Matchmaking balancing question

Is leaving without concequence before spawning implemented in 1.4.3? And does that "before" spawning include the warmup phase or not? Example you are in the warmup and you spawn, the match is about to start as is 4v4 and you want to leave, does that count as leaving, or does only leaving during or mid rounds AFTER the match has started count as leaving?

As noted in patchnotes, yes, it is in 1.4.3. It includes warmup too. You can leave during warmup without punishment even if you have spawned during warmup.
It should be noted though, this is for punishment system, the one that blocks matchmaking for some time. This is not related to win/loss calculations.

We will have proper punishments for leaving once we have a Ranked Mode and a Casual Mode.
I hope you will consider the pro and cons of splitting because it will hurt both casual and ranked queue times. Since Skirmish is basically the tryhard mode it would be ok to have ranked only. For casual go TDM or Siege... In counterstrike also is no option to play 5v5 normal and its nice. It forces you to tryhard and when you tryhard you like esport more

My mates and I were curious if this is based on ELO, Glicko(2), TrueSkill, or something else?

Awesome that this is being implemented now. Hopefully this gives devs some good feedback on how the system works. I'm looking forward to the UI and wonder if MMR is listed in docs/History or something.

I hope that clans opt to solo-queue more often for ladder integrity. If you take a look at Dota2/League/CSGO/OW you'll notice that pro teams don't stack because they don't want to destroy the ladder like that -- it'd also be super pointless as yeah, obviously you can get max MMR by 6-stacking at 4am. No one cares.

I'm also a bit concerned about this. In an ideal world we have enough players for Casual and Ranked, but if not, I think the best way to combine the two would be to hide MMR until the top 25% or something. It's also worth mentioning that Captain has comparable (at least in NA it seems to be greater) numbers to Skirmish, which would result in four total queues. That's a LOT of queues for the player size, so perhaps the top 25% with visible UI would work best.

Came to forum to rant, then I found this thread. Really happy to read. Turns out not all my co-players are complete morons. Will go to bed and dream about balanced matches tomorrow, my only day off work

Just to give an update to people in this thread as well

We normalized the overall MMRs of all players so that players with very high and very low MMRs can find matches faster without giving up too much of match quality.

Basically all players got closer to the average MMR depending on how far they were. Everyone is relatively ranked the same as before
