Marshalship

So I was appointed Marshal and then told my companion to send the message so I camped where I was to make sure the lords could find me easily and so after a day one shows up and then leaves as soon as I start to move towards the enemy, am I doing it wrong or what affects people wanting to stay with me? I have a low army right now as they're garrisoned in my town.

Having good relations with the lords, helps a lot

BUT there is a problem with the AI, if a large army comes, larger than the current one, they run away, or if they find a new easy target, they go for them...

main point is, have good relations or they won't show up at all, this happens with the AI marshals as well, where some don't bother to go with them, and if u ask them, thery say their marshall sucks...

so ye, be friendly or no help at all

Funny thing is I'm friends with at least two lords and the king, and one of the lords that I'm not such good friends with showed up and then left. ;pp

Edit: Is there a penalty if I'm Marshal and don't do any campaigns or anything?

Edit2: I guess as soon as you're Marshal you need to start the campaign and you can't travel for just four hours to a city to make a business... than by the time people show up it's time for the new marshal elections...

yea, i think u get controversy, not sure

what i am sure, is that u do get TONS of controversy while you are marshall and ANY of the kingdoms fiefs is looted/taken...
pretty much the kings punching bag when the own lords do nothing to help their fiefs

Crap, is there any way to lower controversy? I probably shouldn't have accepted marshalship...

Edit: I have two controversy... dang...

only 2? try 80....

Just speak to ur king and say you don't wanna be marshal no more, i think u get a small relation hit, just make a quest for him to bring it back up

being the marshall is ace, i recently gained a castle aswell, so i've stuck most my troops in there, and now i have around 42 men, myself and jerumus included, so no more worrying about morale or food, i've only just become marshall myself for the first time in warband, knowone seemed to come to me either, so i went and picked up the lords myself, around 400 of us, kicking arse...

Thing is, the poll for a new marshal happened a day after I became the new marshal.

that's unlucky, i haven't even seen a poll yet, even when i wasn't marshall...

Poll, as in when you talk to a lord you can ask them who they are supporting to be the next marshal.

ah right, not seen that, i wasn't really bothered who was marshall anyway, in the first mount and blade a screen would pop up allowing you to vote between 2 potential candidates, thought you meant something similar...

Nah, sorry, didn't mean to confuse you.

When your calling for Lords to support you as a Marshall to your campaign only lords nearby come to you.. so make 3 stops calling for people inside the kingdom nears many towns and castles... that way you get the most... lords far away do not come at all.. even if you have 100 relations... and lords who think that got more important to do, do not come... lords with low army or money do not come.

Ah, all right, thank you. How do you get the option to call again? It doesn't seem like I could tell my companions to send messages after I did it once.

I haven't seen the original M&B "poll" in Warband, unfortunately. It was nice to be able to cast your vote for Marshall and see who's voting for whom.

Uhm.. I am sorry I've never been Marshall I prefer the computer being a one as they gain a bonus in troops for being a Marshall. So I don't know if you can recall but I know that the computer seems to do that. Maybe you only need to call once... wait at a castle... go to another wait there and go to third and wait there.... then off you go...

How can I get Marshalship in Warband?
I already have 2700+ renown, 30+ relation to a King, 20+ to most of the lords.
But I regularly get information that King again appointed Marshal the same guy with 700 renown...
No election, no question to be a Marshal.
There was not a problem to become a Marshal in "genuine" M&B, but in Warband I'm fully ignored

I got offered to be marshal many times, and I declined many times as well. If you ask Lords who they think should be Marshal, they will say they look to their friends, one who isn't shrouded in controversy, etc. My relation with Lords range from 40 to 70, with the highest being 90+. So I feel that's the reason they pick me by default, high relation and my controversy is 0.

I haven't looked at the codes, but I think being Marshal relies on votes, much like getting land. It could be that by default Lords would pick the people they have the highest relation with, so your 20+ relation with Lords aren't enough.

You can always talk to Lords and ask them to vote for you instead.

On a side note, yes I remember there was an election thing back in M&B one. I wish that was in Warband because it would help keep us in the loop.
