Children born on Mars will have weak hearts and brittle bones, and if they ever decide to come back to Earth, they'll probably die or become bed-ridden immediately.
Wouldent that take generations
I don't think the heart will take much damage. It's mostly the striated muscle tissue.
But the chance of blood clots is higher.
They should start working on fake gravity somehow.

Why, if these people want to colonize mars, they'd better adjust their bodies to local conditions.

I have to say this must be the first time reality shows might actually push forward our progress as a race. Until now they did the opposite thing.

It depends on who they cast for the show. Hopefully everyone that goes needs qualifications that hopefully makes them not complete idiots and assholes.

What? The deterioration?

It's poorly bone and muscle tissues on account of the gravity that's the problem.

The hypothesis though is that the lack of gravity during development in the womb and/or puberty will leave them with a weaker spine and a lazy heart that won't be able to withstand their Earth weight or pump blood all the way to the brain and down to the feet without difficulty. I'm basically talking about people conceived in space or on Earth: the second generation of colonists.

There's still plenty of research to be done.

Would being in a centrifuge for most of the journey, or for intense boughts help at all?

Also, the trip would probably be cheaper if you colonize the moon first.

Personally I'd prefer to live on the moon than on mars. Far closer, and IMO far, far cooler.

Yeah, I don't really believe in it either. You can't just send someone into Space for good.

Ok, feasibility is one thing, but that last part: why not?

Because someone who agrees to it is obviously not of right mind. And one who sends them in out there obviously has his mind in his wallet.
If there was a planet out there that allowed you to live a normal life like Earth, that would be something else.

Might even be that person who causes the utter annihilation of Mars 1 via comical slaughter

I am strongly in favour of this, it would deter future jackoff commercial excursions nicely.

Lord Tim 说:
Thus they make a TV-show about it? Why else would they do it if it weren't for the money?

Because they can? To help fund the project? To help push the limits of human achievement?

Pick any of the above.

Okay, what are they going to do if one of them gets cancer? How will they deal with it if there is only one of them left?
What will they do if they run out of budget? What if you change you mind? Suicide?

There would have to be an unlimited supply of cannabis and alcohol for Mars to be remotely habitable.

This. Imagine just waking up to see a full Earth on the sky.

Well presumably that's why it's a volunteer process, they'll be using a "lengthy" selection process, and the training will take a hell of a long time. Every single one of them will likely need to be in top physical conditions, with any health issues looked into and excluded. If these people know what they're signing up for and are still willing to go, who are you to tell them they're not allowed to in because you personally don't agree with someone dying up on mars?

Plus I bet they'd be able to get a half decent net connection up there
