Marius the Emperor

So is it true what the usurper is saying? that the Emperor hired D'shar people to fake an attack and killed them to make himself Emperor? I can't believe there are dark secrets here, I was about to say this to him but I don't want to get from the Ravenstern kingdom to Janos.

A better question might be, did anyone in Pendor (player character apart of course) get their throne without screwing over someone with a better claim?

Why PC apart? The way I see it, there's at least 10 people in Pendor with a better claim than the PC
Or am I missing a piece of lore here?

Yes, you are.  It is not spelled out explicitly, but when we look in the very deep histories both published and unpublished, the person with the most right is indeed the player.

Why do you think the player is able to become more powerful over a short period of time than anyone else in Pendor?  What combination of factors must be in play and at work to enable this amazing feat?

Who really is your Player Character?

Kindest regards,

Well but the way the prophecy is phrased it basically means whoever unites Pendor under his or her rule is the one who was destined to do so and therefor had the right to do so.

So only PCs who finish the game have any legitimite claim, and that's probably less than 10% of them.

Right to rule? Who the hell needs that, History is written by the Winner and my right to rule comes from the age old method of Total Goddamn Conquest.

So let's say I betray the Emperor to found the kingdom of Pendor and do the prophesy? I'm already level 21 and I'm tired of waiting for unit limit to raise, my army is about 67 men. The thing I hate is the empire losing to d'shar people, but in battle they just crush them with calvarly. Better not talk about snake cult armies near janos, and an heretic army who came from nowhere (actually it came from sarleon and fierdsvain territory) I'm in good relations with the fierds, and now the empire has ordered a truce with d'shar, while raverstern declared war on fierds. Sarleo is at war with fiers too, so it is fighting two fronts despite winning against sarleon( they are getting their as*** kicked). About the armies, all vassals are a bunch of cowards, when they see them, it's like watching the end of the world. Any suggestions will be appreaciated.

Indeed, but even usurpers are not right, look the fierdsvian one. He only wants revenge because his brother (the current ruler) didn't win a duel with him, but escaped and claimed the jarl title.

He sometimes remembers me Ulfric of stormcloaks from Skyrim lol. The fierdsvain are not hateful, but are sometimes a bunch of wild barbarians compared to the mystmountain bandits (no offense to their fans).

Actually in viking culture his brother the usurper would be the person who should be King.

Yeah but without it your just a landless mercenary captain when they take their castles back.

Actually the prophecy states the hero comes from a far off land to unite pendor, it just so happens the snake cult comes from a far off land muahhahaa.

So Azi Dahaka is the prophesied ruler? Nice twist

Let's all change brothers and join the snake cult lol.

@AnddyiRaynor
Oh, fierdsvain are the same culture as the vikings. Honor and glory, I guess.

Viking aspects, most strongly represented by their Vanskerry ancestry, though mixed in with a healthy amount of historical Hanseatic background hence their abilities as traders and sailors. It does make for an interesting mix.

Indeed, makes them strong in both parts, trading and fighting.

I always try to help Madam Ursula because I find that she has the most legitimate claim of any of the claimants.  Unfortunately Ravenstern is usually always very strong, not to mention siege attacks are bloody thanks to their Rangers.  Besides her, the order based on the strength of legitimacy in my eyes are:

2)Empire claimant
3)Sir Dar..(Sarelon claimant)
3) Emir Xeres (D'Shar claimant)
4) Fierds claimant - this one is so weak that I've only helped him once.

My legitimacy comes from the fact that the people love me (villagers), accept my rule, and that my military might allows me to.  The Prophecy is nice, but really it enters only after the fact.  The person who conquers all of Pendor is the one mentioned in the Prophecy.  But if someone conquers all of Pendor, then they have already established themselves and don't need the Prophecy.

I've always bought Marius' side of the story, that he had to do it or else the Empire would be weakened by squabbling selfish interests. There are enemies at the gates in the other kingdoms, and enemies within. Its impossible to tell who might be a Snake Cultist, and the only way to be sure they don't gain control of the Empire is for one person to be in charge. Assuming Marius isn't a Cultist himself... @_@ Its unscrupulous but he seems to be a good ruler. A lot of common folk like that he fights the Cultists, and he supports the Order of the Radiant Cross.

Have you ever seen one of the factions, without player help, unite all of Pendor?

No?

Ah.. then it is really the player who is responsible for the uniting Pendor, regardless of who sits on the throne.
