Margaret Thatcher is dead

Because I was given a ****ty "Christian" education which basically means worshiping the right wing, I know of Margaret Thatcher as some kind of conservative goddess who brought beloved and beneficial economic reform to the UK.

Could somebody enlighten me as to what she actually did? I may be a pillock but I'm not dumb enough to believe that.

She was evil incarnate because she was Christian and conservative. Duh. She single-handedly destroyed the entire country so the poor starving citizens went insane and re-elected her -get this - twice. Even when she retired the madness continued and Tories were once more again re-elected. That's how evil she was.

Even Helen Mirran could not stand before her devilish powers of persuasion.

She increased the number of people in poverty and unemployed, she left the country divided. We have already mentioned several reasons to dislike her.

Most of the terrible ones get re-elected. Bush, Nixon, Harper...

Noones mentioned the coincidence of her hatred to the term *Iron lady*

She hated that term given to her so much so she went after any industry related to iron!! - Steel, Shipbuilding, coal.... the list will go on. If it needed iron it had to go!!

As such, because she indeed took so much iron from the country, next wednesday they will indeed resmelt the *iron lady* to try and restart those industrys she once took.

You (collectively...hah how does it feel?) also completely skipped over the positive aspects of her premiership, mentioned some purely ideological reasons (she privatized stuff), neglected the fact that deflationary policies which the UK badly needed asap almost always come hand in hand with higher unemployment and there's next to nothing a politician can do about it and came up with outright bull**** (she started a war)

You also completely ignored the fact that many countries faced similar problems in that era including every champagne socialist's all time favorite - Sweden with its unemployment about as high as the UK under Thatcher (it's fun when all the articles almost always quote absolute numbers when it comes to unemployment under Thatcher....the millions sounds spooky, but cca 10% at worst and cca 6% at the end of her third term - which is what it actually was - doesn't have the proper apocalyptic vibe), with its government desperately trying to pretend it can prevent a run on SEK which it of course didn't, with its banking industry in need of a good old government bailout. I guess y'all should "dislike" Palme & Carlsson as much as you do Thatcher. But no, they were social democrats, so they're cool.

Conclusion: you Wessis are weak and ***** and moan about every boo-boo. You have no idea what actual harsh economic reforms look like  (joking)

Just read an (admittedly horrible) article about how much Thatcher disliked the idea of an German reunification. For all the wrong reasons, but still.
I kinda like her for that.

She also disliked Kohl, so yeah.

German satire website Der Postillon writes: 'Margaret Thatcher privatises hell: Thousands of demons fear for their jobs." I smiled a bit

Suffering a stroke one of the biggest *****es the world has ever seen is now dead.
That calls for celebration and contemplation. How can her legacy - 'Thatcherism' - go with her in the ground?

So that's what happened to Jhessail.

No one told me why Jhessail left?
It's all over the ****ing place, most notably in the Goodbye thread. What more do you want? Someone to pm it to you with a little bow tie around it?

Hats off to Glenda Jackson for going against the whip and saying what she really thought in the HoC about Thatcherism.

I would rather call it a very tasteless publicity stunt

Hardly, she's not going for re-election in 2015, she's simply expressing the opinion that the rest of them would rather turn a blind eye to.

Yup, quite tasteless. You'd think a person of her age, she'd have some experience with death and dying.

****, even Batman mostly kept his mouth shut when he thought Superman was dead.

It's not her blasted funeral, it's a motion being debated in the House of Commons, it's perfectly proper for her to voice that viewpoint.
