Hey, i made a map for a bloke on vs invasion, but once it was on the server, no-one but me could access it because i already had it downloaded as I made it, everyone else who tried to download it loaded the original map that this one overwrote, and the download repeated so it didn't download the map I made, but constantly said downloading. What exactly do we need to do?
I had this problem when i first started mapping on nw, as i deleted ambush_day, on my local files so when i loaded a server with that map on it, it constantly downloaded the map ambush_day as I didn't have a map for it in the local files.

What happens: Downloads map to the correct file size - Upon loading it seems to switch to another round constantly where you see the player names, and appears to be the old map. The map in question replaced Din Bych.

I don't think you understand, it's not a mod, it's a map. This issue is to do with the game, not our map or our servers we use I'm afraid, if it was we could fix it.

when  you say a "MAP" dont you mean a new scene? That is a mod. Worth checking the Forge, but that is up to you  :razz:

Sure, but it's a scene based on a scene, if you like edited. This isn't the place for the "forge" but for the devs.
 
Mini-bump, please look into this Devs, our Kingdom of Mercia servers are the only frequently populated servers on VC, we've been with you lads since the start amd we want to be able to deliver our players, your players, new and fun content for the invasion game mode.
 
We passed this issue to TW, since we can't do much about it ourselves. We will let you know how things are once someone from TW will reply.

Could you to try no overwritte a map that is on the VC. Using a different name should fix the problems.

Hello, we tried renaming it to something else, adding it as its own map which failed, instead it generated a random terrian. I don't think that the method is at fault, for normal M&B it would work. The issue seems to be, from my prespective, that something has changed dramatically between Native and VC. So it got me thinking what if it's something to do with the way the maps are downloaded? so I got my friend who made the map, Zebaad, to join a server that is not using the custom map to join with the custom map on his local side, you would imagine that the map on the server would just download into his temp-map folder on his computer so he can play, but no, which it seemed to do, but when it was finished loading instead of loading Din Bych it loaded the modified map from his local host/system, not from the server! So the issue seems to be server-based or player based in the map delivery system. So either way, the map is in no way at fault.

Essentially, what we think is the problem is that the module has been coded so that when you load a server it loads the local file where is should load the server file, in most cases downloading it. However, when I did this with the scene i made, as in the scene i made was called Dyn Bych for viking invasion, so when i joined a server with the original Dyn Bych, my game because of how it is made downloaded the server file because it recognized the two files where not the same, however once downloaded it loaded up the local file where it should load the downloaded file. This means that no matter what the scene or map is called the map must be in your local files to access or view it. However in Native, or most other modules this is not the case, so something is clearly wrong with some coding within the way multiplayer has been coded for servers and/or for players when joining servers.

It isn't just the one map, any map that differed from the given maps in the original vc files doesn't work, as the file must be in both the local and the server files in order to use the map. In other words, any map that is on a server that a user does not have will cause the user to automatically download the file, but then display the map they have on their local files, the problem is not one specific map.
So basically if you want to run a test, simply delete a map in your local files for vc invasion, in the sceneobj folder then load that map once you get on, you should see a randomly generated map of the size specified in the scenes.txt, however eventually this map then differs from that on servers, so try to join a server which uses that map, and you will see the same problem.

Anyway I believe my 'superior' has messaged you with the map download, but please remember it is still his property :wink:
 
To save us some time down the line, the latest update has not fixed this issue. Is there any idea on when this might be fixed? we really want to support the community and this map enables us to do so by giving them new content to play on.

The issue came up a bit too late for 1.04. We will work with TW on trying to figure it out.
