I don;t know if I have a problem...or if it's a 'feature' of the editor that I just need to get over and move around.
I am trying to set up Thorgrim's editor, which did not prove tricky thanks to some good tutorials out there.
Then I had a few goes at messing about with making height maps, colour maps etc. and all this seemed to go well when I was directly following a tuorial.
then I decided to start making a proper map, and this is where things got a bit less 'nice'.
I simply cannot get my head around map sizes.
I followed what I thought was right, and bumped up the config numbers to 400 and 300 respectively. This matched the size of my bmp files. That seemed to work OK as far as the heghtmap and mountains areas etc. but I got loads and loads of towns and villages piled up in the corners or out in the 'red' area. It won;t let you save the map like that...so I did a bit more research....and discovered that is does this when the map is too small.
So...armed with a small and dangerous bit of knowledge, I upped the numbers.
Even at 700, 700 I still have a load of stuff in the 'red' zone and one lurking in the corner
I am not fussed if my map is no bigger than stock....in fact...I WANT a map around the stock size, or a touch bigger, but I cannot work out the right values. Also...should I just ignore the towns in the 'bad' area and move them.
Lastly...have I understood the info correctly with regard to the colour and height files? From what I read, they have no relevance to the map size, and just contribute to the level of detail. The map size and density control the size and number of points on the actual mesh.
I'm confused!
