Manual block training server for newbies

I've been messing around a bit with some melee mechanics, and I figured I'd host a server for a couple of hours to get some feedback on it. I'm just hosting it on my own PC (in the netherlands), so sorry in advance for the crappy ping.

So what did I change exactly? Well, I introduced a limit to how fast you can feint. If you try to feint too fast, your character will do a little flinch animation. Also, the server clips off extreme angles for attack animations. It still looks like you can do them on your end though, but to other people your attacks will appear to be at a less extreme angle.

Also, combat speed is set to slowest. I'm hoping this will give new players a place where they can just focus on blocking simple attacks without being completely overwhelmed by all the pro tricks.

Anyway, the name of the server is "Newbie_duel_server", it's in duel mode. Love it? Hate it? Let me know what you think.

I believe it would be more beneficial to setup different kinds of bots (bots that hit fast, bots that hit slow, bots that block like masters, bots with different weapons), and put the speed to normal and everything else like normal duel servers. Just call it Block Training Server.

Imo, the best ways for newbies to learn to block basic attacks is to just stand in place and let themselves get killed over and over again until they can block a certain number of attacks. After they learn that, they should do the same just while moving. Once they have mastered blocking while in place and while moving they should move to duel servers to fight real players where they can learn to block feints and do more advanced stuff in time.

Thanks for the tips! My server has the old nditions bots on it. Perhaps it's indeed better to just put it on medium speed, the difference between medium speed and slowest speed isn't that huge though.

The feint speed and attack angle limit are just a little experiment. Bots are indeed nice for practicing manual blocking, but I figured it might be a nice idea to try to change the melee system in a way that it has a lower skill ceiling and forces everybody to fight in a way that newbies are less likely to get overwhelmed by attacks that seem almost impossible to track for them.

It's getting late, so I just closed the server btw.

I can block in native just fine and in NW I piss people off by blocking every attack until they leave me to go fight another person lol, but when I'm not allowed to move and try to block, I turn into a noob.  I don't think standing still while blocking is beneficial at all, even for new players, because you need to incorporate footwork, which is extremely important.  Half the time I don't even need to block attacks, I just step back a bit then go back to fighting, which is an important tactic if you are bad at blocking.

Moving and attacking make blocking a lot easier, since it gives you a bit more time between when you have to be reactive and limits the number of effective attack directions for your opponent. Simply blocking is much harder.

Not that I can block...
