Manual Activation Issue.

Hey there. Bummer to be posting first in this forum, but alas.

I purchased a serial key for M&B the other day, while at work. My home is without internet access and so I have to use the Manual Activation option for the game. However, even after entering the activation code I got from http://act.taleworlds.com, the game does not register.

I enter the code and hit enter, and recieve no message of either acceptance or denial of the code. Launching my save games gives me the message that I have to acquire a serial # to play.

Is manual activation currently functional? Has anyone had this problem before? I could find anything about it on the forums. Thanks for your help.

You don't get any message whatsoever?

Just to check, you should be putting your serial number + Hash (which you'll see when you go to manual activation) into the site and getting an incredibly long activation code.
Once that's entered, it should either unlock the game or tell you its an invalid code.

You are correct: I'm not getting any message at all from the program when I enter the activation code that I got from the website.

Hi Cutpurse.

Here's a quick guide on using maual activation:

(1) Start Mount&Blade, press "Enter serial key" button, and then select
"manual activation".

(2) Note down "Hardware hash" code displayed on the window.

(3)At this step you need to ask a friend with Internat access help you over the phone. Tell your friend to open up an internet browser and go to "www.taleworlds.com/act/".
He must enter the hardware hash you obtained at step 2 and your serial key. The page will then give him a 32-digit activation code.

(4) Enter the activation code you obtained at step 3, on the manual
activation window of Mount&Blade.

Hope that helps. Feel free to email me if you run into any problem with that.

To clarify:

I am entering the activation code that I got from http://act.taleworlds.com after putting in my serial and hardware hash. I think I've stated this plainly twice now?

My problem is that when I enter the activation code, the program gives me no confirmation or denial that the key works or doesn't, and just shuts down, leaving me unregistered.

What version of windows are you using?

If it's CTD'ing when you enter the code it sounds like it has a problem either updating the game files or the registry.

If your using 2000 or XP then make sure you have administrator rights on the system.
If not, or if you do then I suspect some kind of security or antivirus program is blocking the attempt to alter the files\registry. Try the following:

Write down the activation code, if you haven't already. Also, disconnect or disable your net connection (if present) before you try the following:

1. Go to start -> run. Type in MSCONFIG and hit enter.
2. On the new window, click startup in the upper right corner.
3. If using XP, click the disable all button and hit ok. If win9x, uncheck everything except scanreg, loadpowerprofile, systray and explorer. Hit ok and restart when asked.
4. If msconfig opens up again when you restart, close it (don't reboot). Once the system is up, try unlocking mount and blade manually.
5. Once unlocked (or if you get the same error) run MSCONFIG again and re-enable everything. Click OK and restart.

I'm using XP, as an admin, and I've tried disabling everything before attempting manual registration.

I get no message, no error, and the program doesn't shut itself down. The manual activation window merely closes and leaves me with the launch window.

IIRC the screen should close, and on the new splash screen it should say "Mount & Blade running in full mode".

Is it possible for you to try automatic activation?

Failing that, have you tried uninstalling, deleting the game folder and re-installing?
