Managing Productive Enterprises

I just recently discovered that it's possible to manage productive enterprises by buying the raw materials elsewhere and then selling the finished products where they sell for more. Any advice on the best way to do this?

I was thinking of opening an ironworks in Dhirim, stocking it with iron from Curaw and then bringing the finished product to Suno. That way, if I'm busy and the ironworks runs out of materials, I'll still make a profit. But would it make more sense simply to open an ironworks in Suno and stock with iron from Curaw? Then I could have just have the ironworks automatically sell the finished product in a place where it will make a profit.

Any help here? I would like to keep the place where I buy and sell materials relatively close so I'm not spending days travelling from one end of the map to the other.

I've got Ironworks in Dhirim... and I regret it. If I'm lucky, I get a profit of 100 Denars, but most of the time it is costing me money. Tell me again why I shouldn't go for the Dyes in Dhirim?

The usual consensus is "Dyework everywhere except Veluca". There is wisdom in that. Though, TBH that feels like taking on 400 men with 60 Swadian knights.

In M&B 2 I'd certainly hope they'd balance the resources more. I'd have no problem with a bakery turning out, say, 20-40 loaves of bread per week for 10-20 Grains to balance things out.

After I guess 1.42 things changed a little, last time I've checked it was tannery in Jelkala, oil press in Veluca, tannery or oil press in Suno (I'm not sure what it was there) and dyeworks everywhere else (starting from Rivacheg whith brings you 1000 profit everyweek) (and yes dyeworks in Curaw too). Linen weavery in Shariz stoped to gain profit, now is better to place dyeworks there as well.

Right, that is the general consensus for when the productive enterprises are on autorun. Is that also the best option for when someone is managing them by providing them with cheap raw materials?

Also, how current is that consensus? I've found that dyeworks struggle to make money in Rhodok towns.

Pretty sure it is still the consensus when supplying them.  Yes however the consensus is slightly outdated. The dyeworks pretty much everywhere bit is still true however certain towns (Jelkala and Velucia for example) tend to lose money, same goes for Suno and I think Praven though the rest it is always 400+ a week.

As a roleplaying aspect you can do it and make some profit, but really it's more trouble than its worth.

I tried a game in 1.134 where I had made some ironworks in the 3 Rhodok towns and buying from wherever I could to feed them.  The selling price of tools in those towns was very nice, so I was chuning a fairly nice profit without having to sell the Tools myself.  I was working to become a Rhodok vassal so I was coming back to those towns often enough anyways.

I was usually able to buy enough to feed 3 for more than a week so I woul'dnt have to do a run evrey single week, but I was still hunting down Iron fairly often.

This lasted untill I got more involved in my faction, at which point I switched to factories that were making money without me getting involved.

All in all it did give me a head start since with about 12k investment I had 3 factories running giving me nearly 1000 each in weekly revenue.

But
-Once or twice I was forced to buy at not so good price - It was either that or let the factories run by themselves which would make them lose money.
-It bacame pretty tedious pretty fast doing all those back and forths.  There isn't that much Iron aoround, especially once wars spread out and villages stop producing.
-The profit I made wa actually not so clear cut when you consider the money I could have made by simply selling the Iron.
