Make this an online game! (sometime)

I've just downloaded the game and played to level 6 and I must say it's almost everything I want in a game. I just wish it was an online game, because this game would be awesome (mmorpg style). Add castles+sieges to that and the game would be perfect

But if that's too much work (mmorpg style), then just make an online (counter-strike style) addition to it. A server would load maps (battlefields) just as in Counter-strike. Then people would join and get to a shop interface where they can choose some equipment/weapons/etc, but they only have an amount of cash to spent (server admin decides the amount). And skill points too. Then two (or more) groups of real people fight it out on the battlefield.

Perhaps you could let dedicated servers set up their own skill/equipment system for their players.

First finish this game in single player version ofcourse, but please consider it very seriously to add some form of online play, because the gameplay is great and it would attract a lot of people.

Seriously, I can see that maybe someday it will go there because Multiplayer = Money.
But I don't want another WoW.
M&B is unique.
It will never be better than WoW or others, but to whatever genre it belongs now, it is the best. Multiplayer would mean to change the style, eliminate the atmosphere just change the complete game.

The CS idea: Might work okay, however a big part is the RPG style and I doubt it will be as much fun without it.

I'm all for the FPS style idea, but not MMO. The economics of running an MMO force so many bad game design "features" on the developers so that they can keep people doing the same thing over and over and over for $15 a month. If I was playing a Mount and Blade battle with other players, I'd prefer to just do it and not go through 300 hours and $70 (on top of paying for it) before I could have a lance.

I'd say the best way to do it is to be able to create character "builds" and use those for multiplayer. All of these characters would have the same level and equal equipment, leaving the outcome of the battle down to how well people play.

I second that.....or maybe having the option of balanced characters?

Ya know how funny it is to think just how little RPG's have advanced combat wise over the past 20 years? Think back to some oooold rpg...how did the battles go? "you encounter rat!!" "rat attacks for 2 damage" "you attack and miss" "rat attacks for 5 damage" "player1 was defeated by rat" *yawn* And guess what, its the exact same combat system with EQ2, WoW, Ryzom, Eve...and just about any other MMORPG you can think of. Poorly animated battles with characters just trading hits after selecting the "attack" option. Hasn't advanced one bit really. Triple the polygon count, and a cool new interface, and call it a new game, hurray! I can only imagine if some of those games had the M&B combat system. You'd have the most popular MMO game of all time, hands down. Oh...armagon, i'm not suggesting anything at all, i swear!

I do not, repeat, DO NOT want the dev team to sway from their current concept.

But, just as a thought for this discussion, why is it that no one has developed a persistant online environment? Think of it, a game like M&B with just few players, those that you have chosen to be a part of your world, with the rest AI as M&B is now. Players that you can interact with and maybe join in battle or even battle against but without being forced to deal with a world filled with idiots with no purpose but levelling. The community that has shown up here is the perfect community for creating such "mini-environments".

A Diablo or Guildwars type thing could work easily.

Ugh... I'm the only one still thinks of UO when MMORPGs are mentioned instead of WoW and Diablo (which is neither Massive, nor Roleplaying, f you ask me... )

On the "CS-like" idea... why not like Black&White - you can export your hero (+party, if wanted), and then fight with him/her against the heros+parties of others... maybe you could even gain XP for fighting against others and be able to reimport your hero.
Units that die there could either be lost permanently or be healed again, dito for "lameing" horses etc., depending on what settings one chooses prior to the duel.

I think online play would be amazing, as long as it didnt turn into a MMORPG kind of thing. Something that is in keeping with what the dev team has been doing already, because they are doing an outstanding job and this game was worth way WAY more then the 11 bucks I spent on it.

So, something more feasable that keeps the more personal nature of the game...

A) Maybe have a versus mode, something simple and small, maybe allowing players to go head to head with their characters in the areana, or on a randomly generated battlefield.

B) Maybe 2-8 man co-op. Just something simple, the game remains exactly the same, but who ever is hosting the game is basically inviting other players characters into their world. That way you wouldnt have to like make a data base or anything.

Just some ideas, I dont know squat about computers or programing so I dont know how feasble that is.

Holy crap! I used to be a moderator and editor for Planet Black and White and when I was thinking of this idea that game came to mind. Very few people actually played the MP in B&W but it seriously helped build a strong community of those that did. The idea that you could take a creature (hero) that you had worked on and created and put them in a world with creature that thers had done the same with was fantastic and not at all the ultra-competitive garbage that game like CS created.

Sounds like everyone agrees in one way or another that some form of multiplayer should be added (after the development of the singleplayer game is finished).

If this game was a MMORPG and it played as well as it does now in singleplayer (so without lag). I would definately be willing to spend twice the amount per month for what other MMORPG ask for their game.

But to not have the annoyingly long and boring "level up" things and to not have a monthly fee, or annoying-just-to-be-annoying PK-ers, would definately be even better. I still want to play the mmorpg style of this game, but a CS-like system would also work and be alot of fun to many people. You'll lose the RPG style of the singleplayer game with it, but with other populair online games you also have another gaming experience with online play.

I like the idea of being able to export your own character, but not force it on all servers. Because it's more fair to let everyone spend the same amount of money/skills on their character, so it comes down to their own skill rather then on the skill of their character.

all good suggestions, but it's been stated over and over that multiplayer is not feasable for M&B. Maybe the sequel. Believe me, this is the first thing everyone asks when they join.

If there is a MP mode to ever be added, I hope it's a co-op for a small group of players.

As the world is still very lacking, a lot of trouble could be saved by simply transforming this game into a MMORPG and letting the players populate the world with their guilds and factions.

Despite the bad experiences that people have of WoWs and other games, I think this is begging to be made into an on-line game.

IMHO

totally agree, not such online thing, or just like (lets say) starcraft, youll make a server and 2 or 3 people can join you, they can attack and they can join you so you can beat the freaking dark knight with 400 man

While it's quaint that you're all getting hung up on moral issues like payment methods, they're just pebbles being kicked around the bottom of the technical mountain. If the engine's collision system is as detailed as it seems, it'll be a massive task to get it functioning reasonably online. Nearly impossible. Small scale co-op is a distant possibility.

Because it's very, very hard. The combat, which in M&B is the focus of the game, would suffer.

An MMO using the current combat system is impossible. Think of the combat in MMO games and how limited it is. They don't do that on purpose, they do it because it's the only way you can make a reliable combat system with that many players. Planetside, the FIRST EVER REAL-TIME MMO ZOMG was the bare bones of a shooter compared to normal FPS games, and even then had to draw upon all the bandwidth-management lessons already learnt from popular, well-developed FPS games of the time. Mount & Blade has nothing to draw upon because hardly anything has done online melee successfully, beyond giving players very short range axe-shaped guns. Like Rune!

A medieval mmorpg with a combat system like this would be so cool. Im so sick of seeing fantasy/medieval games out there. I have always hoped for a mmorpg to just be true medieval with pvp combat/seigeing castles/medieval tactics/the fedual system, building castles, etc.

Possible or not a twitch based medieval mmorpg would be sweet!

Look for a game called risk your life http://www.ryl.com.my/ ..... online Action MMORPG.. you have the option of using the usual "click attack wait a while" style of combat or you can switch to the fast past fps style of combat.
