Make companions into Lords who are not noble?!

I made a few companions into vassals that were not of noble origin and everybody was fine with it... even those of different factions... I started again and made that Tribune Barlobutt (Cant remember his name) a vassal of my newly established principality and the first few lords I ran into (of diff factions) didn't mention a word but one... You know, the usual 'Bla bla bla, dont give lordships to commoners...'

What I want to know is,  does the title of nobility still effects your ruling and detoriate points from other Lords? (I can imagine so, though I dont know since it didnt happen in the previews game)

Also, do those that quarrel as companions do the same as Lords?
