I still can't get how do you pretend that a guy charging with a horse manages to keep his lance after a couch, just the impact may unbalance both the rider and the horse, and trying to hold a lance impaled in an enemy could almost always ends with the guy out of saddle or the horse falling on the ground....Archonsod 说:Only if the horse stops. When the horse keeps moving the lance will usually tear itself free. It's one of the reasons lance cavalry were so brutal against fleeing troops, because they could simply use the lance again and again. There's some wonderfully gory descriptions from the 18th century of this very thing.l3asu 说:Also Arch, once the lance impales its target, it comes to a halt and would not be able to get out of the body of the enemy unless you took the time and effort to.
No, you'll generally find people hate getting hit by horses. But since they're impossible to run away from you're basically forced to play chicken with the rider and sidestep at the last minute to avoid the weapon. Since it's now possible for the rider to switch sides with a lance quickly and easily this often means you're forced to step into the horse instead, which is far preferable to taking couched damage. The only people who'll deliberately stand in front of a horse are those with polearms.Kevlar 说:Well it sucks a lot right now since people aren't afraid of getting hit so most infantry just stand their ground and let the horse hit them to stop that horse. That should never happen but it does most of the time.
Play cav better. If you play cav more you will realize just how easy it really is to dodge.
The cavalry is a terrible force against a fleeing enemy because is far easy for the rider to force the horse to trample a man that doesn't stand against you or just slash him from behind with a sword... In the 18th century the most powerful weapons for cavalry were sabres, scimitars and pistols: there was very few cavalry formation that used a lance back then... and keep in mind that infantry didn't use armors anymore.
I know that this isn't the major point of the topic but I'm eager to know your views because that was what I have ever thought about cavalry untill now: one hard to comply terrifying charge with couched lance and then onsluaght with swords if the enemy breaks or cavarly smashed by organized and on cohesion defenders
