Main questline restricts gameplay and is plain boring.

I still don't understand the problem with just giving us a simple checkbox when creating a new game. Is this too much to ask for? Obviously Bannerlord is meant to be a sandbox game, don't be silly. The inclusion of the main quest line and gating kingdom creation behind it is likely the result of devs not really having perspective on the fact that it would be intrusive, which it absolutely is and the majority of players would agree with that statement.

They did cover this in some dev talk. They want the main mission to be there for new players to have a clearer path of what to do. For the rest of us the idea is to just ignore it if we want. Maybe they make it togglable later, but the thinking was accessibility for new players instead of sitting outside a training field with no more input than "ride off now, boy!"

As that the story makes a lot of sense. It is designed to make someone travel around, see the world, get access to new features and realize what they can do.

I could not be bothered to play the "find the 10 bums all over the continent while the world snowballs" so I switched on cheats for that particular part and ctrl-t myself out of it

i should not have bought this game on release...with all the bugs that going on and all the stuff i now hear about the storyline and the rp it force on you im kinda lost the love and excitement i had for this game..

***thinking about uninstalling***

You are right of course about the purpose of it. But I don't want to just have to ignore it, I want it gone completely from my game. Maybe if I intend to play some sort of Empire playthrough I'd choose to toggle on the quest, but I'd like to have the option to turn it off when launching a new game.

In my experience the gameplay restricts the story. I finally completed the dragon banner but 95% of the map is owned by one faction, that a LOT of the lords have defected to, and they run about with army stacks so big there's nothing I can do to anyone.

personally i think it is worth the wait, i mean the game has become a lot better even over the past week. items have been added, workshops have been (mostly) fixed, archer bugs have been fixed etc etc etc.

But if you really cannot stand playing than i would advice you to leave it installed and check again in a month or something like that, the rate they are releasing patches the game should be a lot better by than, i very much doubt you will have the sandbox experience people want but i am convinced you will see a lot of improvement.

in a few years from now we will be able to joke about it and say: do you remember the ... bug from early acces, we will all laugh about it than.

Don't get you. Not saying a toggle to turn it off would not be nice but the intention of the dev here is kind of good. They understood that Warband was a slog to understand. It was intrigueing, but a slog.

1. The main quest is intrusive because it suggests that you are 'supposed to play this way', for those of us who want a full sandbox experience, this is annoynig.
2. The purpose of the main quest is, as you said, to introduce new players to the game to give them a sense of direction.
3. Offering us the ability to toggle off the main quest when creating a new game is the best of both worlds and barely requires any work. Start the tutorial as usual, but after we leave the training camp, there's no quest. And for those who wants the main quest, it'll be toggled On by default. Everyone is happy.

But are Warband and Bannerlord true sandbox games?
Does a sandbox game mean the player can just whatever, or must it be in the context of the world?
Can you have an endgame as a merchant? Or a smith? There is a final goal - conquer everything.

I take it that the quests will be improved and once feasts are properly in, it will be easier to find the lords.

Who cares about the story... who says I have a brother? Is this an RPG or a book?
Bruh get my name out ya mouth, no one was saying it couldn't be like that. Also just because it's an RPG doesn't mean there can't be a few constants, if what you said is the case why are they making us be humans? Why not just play as a goose in one of the village ponds?

warband was supposed to be a pure sandbox game, bannerlord is not, if it was supposed to be a pure sandbox game than the devs would not make a campaign mode for it.
They are however allowing you to play it as a sandbox and ignoring the main quest, right now the creating a kingdom is locked behind a quest but since they already stated that they want to make it so you can ignore it i am assuming that this will be changed later.

Mount & Blade with Fire and Sword had a campaign. It does not the change the fact it was very fun as sandbox.

I dont think it is much of campaign to talk to 10 guys and then painting the whole map in one color besides 4 fiefs.

Having to "ignore the main questline sitting in my quest log" feels wrong and makes me feel like I'm "playing the wrong way", it should just be made completely optional when starting a new game, this really isn't hard at all, Viking Conquest had this feature, you could select if you wanted to play Story mode or Sandbox mode, same should be done in Bannerlord.

+1
It's a matter of immersion.

I think TaleWorlds doesn't even have a storyline department, as there are ZERO quests in the game which have any meaning at all.

Eight years... and this is the best they could come up with. It''s just pathetic.

Let's be realistic. They started developing this game 1/2/3 years ago, when it was advertised. Otherwise it was forgot, in limbo.
Let's be glad: it is probably a better base for mods than warband that really aged.
Let's hope the IA bugs chomping all the CPU (my uneducated guess, because I am quite sure this old engine has no heavy GPU requirements) can be fixed.

And let's hope best mods will be up soon not enough to provide a proper campaign (as said, a campaign about talking to 10 guys and then conquering the whole map minus 4 towns cannot be right) but a proper sandbox.

I am voting for https://www.moddb.com/mods/mount-blade-ll-fire-in-the-steppe
Whoever is planning to do this newest With Fire and Sword, please proceed! Nothing but With Fire and Swords match better the Mount & Blade sandboxing (alliances that goes to ****, enemies everywhere, war, instability!).

Are we really going to discuss definitions, or just add an option to toggle the main quest On and Off so that literally everyone will be satisfied? Seriously, what is the problem here? Just asking for a toggle, I'm willing to bet the vast majority of the playerbase would agree.

There thing is though it doesn't take much time to come up with a basic story. Anyone that's ever DMed could have came up with at least a general plot line in a couple days. Also people would be working on different projects. Did they just forget to hire the guy for quests? lol The "campaign" is barely a WoW leveling quest. It might as well be called "Kill 10 wolves and loot 3 hides" for all the thought that went into it.

I thought you refunded the game? What happened to that?

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one to notice your brother from the beginning never comes back. And I also find it very sad, I liked that little story and wanted to see my brother return as a companion (at least to have the choice to let him join you).
If well done, it could be a great intro to the family mechanics, and if you die, your bro could take the place if you don't have children yet or something like that.

I really hope to continue this questline, otherwise it would be a shame.
