Main questline restricts gameplay and is plain boring.

Overall story idea is good but those missions are just terrible. It's just pressing N and running after ghosts for one hour. I'm more interested in siblings quest than running after 10 nobles. Banner quest should given by Garios, Lucon and Rhagea after player gain their trust.THEN when you assemble a banner you can betray him/her and make your own kingdom (with like +50 boost to right to rule cuz of banner)

It's already been established that campaign is a module and a sandbox module also exists, it just hasn't been implemented yet.
I really wish people would spend a bit of time looking things up. I'm willing to bet ageing and clan can be disabled in sandbox too. Which is another complaint I keep seeing.

Personally I do think they should have started with sandbox, my guess is they wanted the tutorial in, but considering how little it gives you I could live without it.

I just couldn't fathom why you couldn't save your brother sister before getting the banner. I would think that after the nobles, or after assembling the banner, you would find your siblings, because what does becoming a vassal or faction leader have to do with your siblings? Why can't we find them earlier? lol, it just doesn't fit together well.
The best part is : when you combine the banner, you have to either unite the Empire OR take it down completely using the Banner. So your character chooses to either destroy a nation or help rebuild it before he pays any attention to his lost siblings. 10/10 plot writing; I came up with more believable stories when I was 7

Yeah, lets just drop all complaints because you "think" that maybe in Sandbox all those problems are non-existant. Even if that was the case, TW should be told how bad their "story" is so they can maybe work on it.

Because probably that questline isn't finished yet, so it just stops after the tutorial.

After the first run, which ended because of a snowballing faction, I seriously can't bring myself to play the main questline again.
Sure it was decent the first time, although playing cat and mouse for 10 times while constantly traveling to the other side of the map wasn't exactly fun, but I'm not willing to do it again.

Where are the sandbox gameplay and character progression that characterized Warband?

I want to be able to become a relatively known and powerful character without having to grind for two irl days straight and following this uninspired and incomplete questline. Who says I have to have a brother and why does he look like an 80 years old black khergit despite my family being imperial? I feel like this whole quest should be optional and let people play as they want, even start as a lord if they wish to...

I feel restricted.

I can totaly see myself still having that first story quest after becoming ruler of the whole country lol
And yes I agree with you. Grinding take too long.. Miss old warband at this point

I personally don't actively try to pursue the main questline. I play the game how I normally would and when I run into a lord with a blue question mark I talked to him. It felt more free that way, like I accidentally stumbled upon a piece of lore. I find it really cool that they created a story where you get many perspectives on the main battle, even if the quest is busy work.

That's how I've done it too on my latest char.
I signed up as a mercinaey and ran around slaughtering other lords for faster renown gain and would always eventually stumble upon someone with the quest.
It was easy

But I agree. The main story needs some work to say the least.
And I would like more freedom.

I was unable to create a kingdom of my own after serving as a vassal and giving up the banner. I should be able to be a king even without this banner no?

@Dhargo if you actually bothered reading the EA description you'd know it already states that parts of the planned quests are missing. You're complaining about a bad story that hasn't even been fully implemented yet.
Should they have waited and implemented the quests only when it they were ready? Maybe, but my guess is they wanted the parts that also act as a tutorial in the game.

Eight years... and this is the best they could come up with. It''s just pathetic.

Its early release. While I have not bought the game yet, for reasons like this and to see if all the new "features" have ruined the game or not...you cant judge the game yet. Its very possible that when they drop the rest of the story that it will not take as long and will be "better".

you can make a kingdom without doing the main quest line. i did this on one play through, the only thing that happens is that you wont have access to you kingdom tab, so you cant form army's or buy policies or expel clans from your kingdom or vote to take away land and give to other ppl.
Technically you are a kingdom who cant manage anything

I feel restricted.

you can use mods like [developer console] and cancel it. Not ideal. But its early early EA (say it fast 4x), so yeah, things are unfinished, broken, missing, ... including sandbox.

or you can wait for full release and see if they managed to change things around. But that will take months to years. Pick your poison.

It is optional (at least I think so), there is no time limit. So, ignore it if you prefer.
Having to "ignore the main questline sitting in my quest log" feels wrong and makes me feel like I'm "playing the wrong way", it should just be made completely optional when starting a new game, this really isn't hard at all, Viking Conquest had this feature, you could select if you wanted to play Story mode or Sandbox mode, same should be done in Bannerlord.

You haven't played any Bethesda games then.

I have, and the TES series aren't sandbox games, they are open world adventure games with a big emphasis on the questing and storylines, big difference from the M&B series which is supposed to be a pure sandbox game.

warband was supposed to be a pure sandbox game, bannerlord is not, if it was supposed to be a pure sandbox game than the devs would not make a campaign mode for it.
They are however allowing you to play it as a sandbox and ignoring the main quest, right now the creating a kingdom is locked behind a quest but since they already stated that they want to make it so you can ignore it i am assuming that this will be changed later.

I still don't understand the problem with just giving us a simple checkbox when creating a new game. Is this too much to ask for? Obviously Bannerlord is meant to be a sandbox game, don't be silly. The inclusion of the main quest line and gating kingdom creation behind it is likely the result of devs not really having perspective on the fact that it would be intrusive, which it absolutely is and the majority of players would agree with that statement.
