M&B won't start again after I've played it once

Yes, I downloaded the demo, and now I'm waiting for a friend to purchase me the serial key(I don't own a credit card of any kind).

However, the game simply refuses to start again after playing, if I don't restart my computer first. Otherwise the game works completely fine. No error messages or anything, it just won't start, but sometimes I get the "M&B has performed an illegal action--" -error.

I'm running M&B on Win98, and my computer meets the system requirements as far as I know. I searched through the forum if someone else would've had the same problem, but I didn't find anything useful.

Help, please?

(Yay, my first post to this forum)

Right, I'll post my PC specs even though I see it bit pointless because the game works on the first start.

AMD Athlon 3000+
1G 400mhz DDR-RAM
Radeon 9600 Pro 128mb
Creative Audigy 2

How much Ram does your comp have? If hardware does affect it, that would probably be the only piece of it, that would be the cause... Not too sure about win98 as well, since I haven't used it in a few years.. Something does come to mind when I think about it (I remember running into similar problems myself), but gimme some time to remember what that is ::smile:

I have 1G of double data rate(DDR) ram memory, and usually about 700-800 MB of it is free for use.

Yes, I would guess it's my OS that's causing these problems.

Make sure the drivers are up to date.
Try closing down everything in the background.

More than likely a problem with the drivers. Most manufacturers have dropped full support for win9x now (microsoft will officially declare the OS obsolete next month) so the current set of win98 drivers are a patchy affair.

Might be worth checking Task Manager for any processes left running after Mount & Blade has exited. Only other possibility (outside chance) is to try emptying the temp directory between playing

I'm going to guess further, this time in the Direction of Themida's 64bit release (which is in M&B now I believe) and Win98.. What I'm getting to, is that maybe the problem unfortunately can't be fixed too well.. Archon do you remember what version Themida was upgraded so that he can try the version before that to see if it is infact the cause? (V0.710 or 0.711 or somewhere there?)

.701 or .710 I believe. .632 should definitely have the older Themida version (though I'm not sure if it would update correctly with the recent version installed, might need to be uninstalled).
