1) Should M&B have vocals

if not why and if so:

2) what kind of vocals would you want to hear in Mount and Blade if mount and blade were to have vocals. By that i mean ala baldurs gate with greetings etc or ... ?

I don't really want vocals. It'll make battle too cluttered with 40 people saying "Nyarrr!" at the same pitch :???:. The manly screams and feminine bluergs are enough for me.

Mixed on the subject. I recall a mod in Operation flashpoint which introduced russian and english diction to be said during combat. It was great..but then when you were playing the IDF vs egypt, it was odd hearing russians.

A limited use might be cool. Hearing a battle cry before your troops meet, hearing your character shout out the commands.

1) Yes, M&B should have vocals. There should be more variety for all sound clips (such as the soundpack addon).

2) Limited vocals would be best, with vocals reserved for Sergents (Marnid and Borcha, and others that may be added later). Vocals should be modable and not hardcoded, so individual modders can add flair to their mod with sound variety, if they choose.

Vocals ideally would have Marnid and Borcha screaming out the orders to the troops. They are sergents, after all. (IE, if you want all infantry to charge, Marnid and Borcha would scream out the order for infantry to charge). You, as the player, should never have any vocals, under any condition.

I suppose non-battle vocals would be a nice addition, but are not necessary at all. At best, I'd hope that they would be modable (in the event that someone wanted to create a soundstory mod or something to that effect).

I would like a Japanese lounge Singer to sing all of the conversation. It would be humorous for the first couple of minutes, then would make people cry and turn off the sound.

Swadians should have Alvin and the Chipmunks vocals, while Vaegirs should have the mice from Bagpuss voicing them.

Oh, and the theme from the A-Team should play when you charge at the start of battle, while rearing your horse should trigger the theme from the Magnificent Seven to play.

I would like to have some battle vocals if they are not completely crazy. It would help me to find the enemy a bit better if they are dirctional, too.

As for voice acting, I say skip it. I only like voiceacting in cutscenes, and I only like sparing use of cutscenes such as at the beginning and end of the game...and definitely not ones you have to go through over and over like a load battle cutscene or some crap ike that.

Listening to someone speak text slower than I read is highly annoying, and cutting down on text do to voincing is assinine.

The only voice acting I'd like M&B to have would be hello greetings when you speak with NPCs in towns.

I think that it, if done right, could add a great deal to the overall feeling of the game.

A battlecry would be great. Not nearly enough battlecries in games these days. No words, just "Yaaaaaaaah!" or something similarly primitive for charging.

Don't forget the equine neighs!

If I press Ctrl M I want Mariah Carey to inflict the entirety of her latest travesty of an album on enemy troops until they become 'tired and emotional'

Now thats vocals :???:

How about if vocals for the character were included in the charcter makeup screen (pitch, accent, language, intonation, etc.). Of course if they did that it would make the game several megs larger, and give it much more room for bugs.

I think there should be vocals for your commands, and general cheers for your troops.

However, there should be some customizability to the vocals (perhaps a short list of voices to choose from) and some variance in the commands, like the unit responses in Warcraft.

"Troopers, hold here!"
"Guard this position!"
"Regroup here"
"Calvary to me!"

and as you keep pressing the hold button:
"Troopers! Get over here!"
"To me, NOW, or I'll leave you with the slave traders!"

Whenever you give orders, random units could give acknowledgements like:
"Yessir"
"As you wish"
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!" (for the charge command).

Dialogue in cut-scenes would be cool (like if they made a cut-scene of Borscha talking to you when you have him as a prisoner), but I think adding it for all the merchants and rulers across the map would be too much of an overload... unless, of course, they were all modelled after the merchant in the opening scene of Alladin. "Pbbt! Still fresh!"

Me being the limitless dork that I am tend to actually say the commands I give my troops in that over dramatic whisper-yell voice. I would like to see the commands given spoken, the idea for a battle cry also sounded excellent but wouldn't that be difficult to script and/or prone to misfires? Unless you use the suggestion of the man before me and have it be when you order a charge, that is a good idea. I appreciated the experience of troop sounds in Rome: Total War, it gave a nice immersion and epic quality. Everyone loves a good battle cry.

As for actual day to day interaction... no, it isn't nessicary.

I think vocals are good both in the combat and non-combat situations. But, in most games like this i see that have vocals, theres a tendacy to here the same voice and sentence over and over, which makes vocals unappealing. Now in battle, that is a diffrent story. Somebody mentioned a voice mod for OFP earlier. There is one for it called ECP. The AI says something depending on the situation. In this game, there would obviously be lots of battle cries. But maybe have the AI say something depending on the situation. Like if you have a group of low level peasants, and they see that some black knights are charging them, some nervous vocals would improve the combat inviroment. So basically, if vocals are implemented into battle right, they could improve the atmosphere dramatically.

I don't think a bunch of voiceovers during a heavy battle really cut it.

I'd rather have the sound reflect a little more of the chaos of battle....with shouts, death cries, steel on steel and screaming horses all forming a wonderful din of sheer chaos. Maybe not to the point of accurately reflecting the sheer horror of such a battle in reality, that might be a bit much, but it should be enough to disturb someone walking their dog across the battlefield, no?

Isn't there some sounds when you hover over a battle that's taking place?

That kind of battle din is quite good, though during the fights more cries and screams of pain would also be equally good, especially the screams!!!

Er ... Ah yeh, though definetly commands being shouted out, twould be damm good!

pffffft , we should just record a bunch of wet meat slapping together, thats bout 90 percent of the sounds in a medieval combat game

Chicken or pig?

It could make all the difference, i've heard you can get a more wet sound with the former ...

Or maybe a medley of different meats, we could call it, the err .. Meatmedley

Pig meat....def pig meat..and insert some grunts and screams and voila....u got yerself a good ol' fashion pile o'sounds
