M&B Warband Question

Hi, I was wondering if the Mount & Blade Warband expansion will be a stand-alone expansion or if it will require the main game. I ask on behalf of some people I know who like multiplayer games, and like the combat system in M&B, but do not like single player games.
Sorry if I didn't post this in the correct subforum, was just sort of wondering about this and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
