Before "Mount & Blade", the best meele fighting system I had ever played was in "Jedi Outcast". It was very fun to play, specially in multi-player. But when I discovered that it wanst completelly based on skill (there are luck involved, random numbers are also used to determine if a strike hits), I got kinda disapointed.
Other medieval combat systems Ive tried are usually too simple and basic, like Morrowinds, for example. Just keep clicking and if you got good stats and a "Mythril Sword of the Gods +135", you beat the enemy. Or stay away firing arrows with perfect aim has the poor enemy tries to get close to you. Those seens to be the main rule in most medieval inspired combat systems.
Then "M&B" came and everything changed. Next to "M&B", all medieval combat games has to hide their repetitive and simplistic face in shame. I totally agree with the guy that said that if Morrowind had "M&B" combat system (and horses, of course), it would be the one of best games ever.
