The contributions are superb... wish I could do more... but slabbing duty calls.

Please demote me to playtester and team maskot for a week or so

cheers all

is it possible to have the characters have the little flags on their backs as in Shogun TW? Room for adding our own flags later?

I imagine a day when we play as two or more teams on the battlefield... coloured flags on our backs... working as teams... across the internet!!!

Dropped the polys WAYYY back down again, I realized I had applied a divide operation (each single face becomes 4 faces) and saved. So, undo that operation and presto, way less polys.

I use 3d cavas btw. I have MAX but I still haven't got used to it

I'm not doing a kabuto as part of this model though I may do one later, As in M&B helmet is a seperate object. Until some tools are realeased I can't do much more. For example to finish the model it needs a human body. If we dont use the current mount and blade ones to base new ones on their will be animation and scale issues, probaly worse too.

Note, don't bother reading the following unless you understand modeling and animation:
If I get the original M&B models I can stick the armor on top, delete backfaces and set my armor to corresponding child limbs on the original. If it uses boned animation the model will be fininished and can be uvmapped and textured. Any additional animations can be done after the final frame on the original m&b models so the animator doesn't have to start from scratch.

In short I'm not going to model the player as well if I can get away with using the original.

Hey everyone,

I did a quick tanto model... The texture is aweful, so that's why I'll post a wire as well.

Wire.

I know the flow is bad, but I didn't care about it since I don't need subpatches anyway.

Mitsuhide, me and Eagle114th understand your unactive due to your Daimyo wars mod, anyway this is just a notice, AND SOME CANDY TREAT!!!!, i'll post it later.

i skipped a few pages after I found this, so I dunno if it's been mentioned before but... here's an armor you guys might wanna consider putting in to the game, if you haven't already (looks like what I would expect on a Japanese warrior/Samurai, w/e... im not a japanese history buff )

Suggested Armor (it's the very last one)

Throwing stars! Way too cool man.

I'm making another one as we speak.

EDIT: As promised, the second one.

Hope you like them a little.

Great job on the throwing stars/ninja stars. Did you get those designs from a source or are they made up. I would prefer using ones from sources as to make them realistic, but we could include these designs as rare or prototype designs =p

What are other people's views?

Mitsuhide

ps. With my recent stroke of bad luck I have now broken 3 toes on my foot lol. Just thought I would add some comic relief to the thread =p

Hello gang,

Regarding the throwing stars, I happen to like Henderson's better. I may be wrong, but they look more balanced and realistic than the others.

Orion's link is an awesome resource as well. It is difficult to tell which styles of dress are most appropriate for the theme of our mod, in association with time periods, but definitely a source of inspiration for when work begins on dress for non-warriors.

I think Hendersons are better too. They are the same stars I had once. The other 2 are cool, but look less balanced.

Yeah whatever you say, I got it from one or another site... I didn't do any research.

Here's the original pic:

im not a huge fan of stars, but henederson's first 2 looked good

Personaly, I think that if you wanna make models, I think they have enough stars by now, and you can start on the other weapon models =/
The katana model is awesome, btw  compliments to G! (I think that's who made it, anywayse =/)

Lhorkan,

Are these throwing stars modern designs or reproductions of ancient metalwork? At face value, I would hazard to guess these are art pieces designed for a modern market. I would also hazard to say that some of the intricate detail would be lost when being used in the game.

If I remember correctly from a documentary I watched once upon a time, ninja throwing weapons are given more emphasis in film than they aught to have, (as is the case with the nocturnal prowler costume,) but the ones that were used came in two basic forms: a simple iron needle, (in size and proportion like a short pencil,) and three or five-pointed stars, as per Henderson's contribution.

Our theme gurus will soon edify and clarify.

Yeah, you can find pictures of the former ones you referred to (as they are still sold). The slender knife-like ones I mean. Can't hurt to include other ones (unless you're going purely historical, which might be the case, but I don't keep up with some of the threads here).

Also, Matt G, you might want to note that the armor models replace the body model, so you're going to need to include all the underlying layers of clothing and such in your model. (I thought I'd repost, since no one seemed to notice my earlier post in regards to this)

To whoever posted the link to the Costume Museum, good on ya! The people building the models should look at everything under the Kamakura era, as Heian is too early and Edo is too late for the game's time period.

This is just my opinion, but I would just as soon eschew the whole ninja thing all together. I mean, this is a mod for M&B, a game with no assassins or spies at all, just warriors riding around beating each other senseless. The ninja's supposed strengths were stealth, close quarters fighting, and surprise. No armour. Put one out in the open with a mounted samurai bearing down on him, and the ninja won't last long.

let's think that game like Dynasty Warriors (Samurai Warriors, I think it was called)

you didn't sneak around as a ninja in that. however, you got the stupid all-black clothing. That ruined it for me. Ninjas would be too hard to implement, in my opinion. If you want ninjas, go play the Tenchu series (Tenchu 2 > all!)

Ninja would be just as versatile on the battleground as Samurai if he had the right equipment, which, if he had any sense, would have some of for a disguise anyway. The additions I see to regular gameplay as a ninja would be assasination missions at a town which should be possible through scripting, or on the battlefield itself, access to rare ninja weapons, different starting stats, and storyline that is tailored to a ninja.

When you're saying close quarters, no armor, etc. etc. those are for infiltration missions which, no, we wouln't be able to do with the M&B engine without ridiculous amounts of work, but there is gameplay taht is do-able that is suitable to a ninja, and, outside of infiltration missions, they'd be using whatever equipment was sensible.

Stealth acually is a part of M&B already, at least on the world map scale - if ninja have high spotting to start with, this would carry through and be a major part - if ninja have low CHA and leadership to make up for his other high stats, his band will always be small, and avoiding conflict with larger parties in enemy territory is a must.

And you know, we really should just be calling them Shinobi instead of ninja, if only to distance us from the misconceptions.

I'm back btw, hi
