LOUSY Frickin' LANCE

Okay,

Can anyone hit with their couched lances since the change?

I used to hit 2/3 charges, at *worst*.

Now I'm lucky if I couched lance a tree, never mind anyone standing, sitting, or riding.

This is rediculous. An entire battle against 52 bandits, I can usually lance down 4 guys and a horse before my footmen even get involved. I hit 5 times over the entire battle.

If you can couched lance still, please, teach me. Your padawan awaits.

If you run in a straight line, use the arrow to aim with. The new arrow which indicates attack direction. Don't use it when you're not going straight.

Tried this. I charge with my horse, and not hit with the lance.

Uuh...release or click the attack button way earlier now...the forward thrust takes about a second to accomplish now and you'll have to hit the enemy by the time you've extended your arm...if you hit (and they don't parry, which I think is wrong; should be impossible to block with weapon only at least), you'll dish out quite a bit of damage...

That would be a lance attack, the equivalent of a weapon swing, not couched lance. I can do this, but the couched lance was a non-click attack.

Basically, you needed the enemy on the right side of the horse, and within about a 15degree arc in front of you. If you could keep the reticle on them as you passed, you went through anything, including shields. However, you had to be speed 8+ to do it. It's the graphic of when you lower your lance from carrying it in an upright position without actually clicking the mouse to set the attack up.

Couched lance charges are without using the attack button, Skyrage.

Generally, get the tip of your lance to connect with the enemy. It's as intuitive as that. I have no problem with it, personally.

I noticed that it is considerably more difficult to hit with .632. I don't think there's much to say about it, except practice the aim...its harder for everyone now.

It's not, but it's become very hard to pull off in the middle of a fight...
I basically end up making one lance charge on my first attack run, sometimes a second, and then it's time to swing the good old sword, axe or mace until the number of combatants has been reduced enough so that you can go about impaling a few stragglers on your lance...

That is historically correct way for knight to fight. the lance was too long and clumsy to be used in very close quarters(medieval battles were often so tight, that knights got boiled inside their armour due to the immense press of the battle. this was even worse in sun, like in the holy land.) knights charged using their lances, and after throught the first line, the lance was dumbed(or it was broken to pieces during the attack) and they pulled their swords and maces and whatever they had to fight close to the enemy.

Aye, the current Lance system works pretty well (of course adding durability for lances and having them splinter/break depending on what you charge and how would be even better, but meh...), makes the combat a bit more realistic and limits mad "solo" actions of a single knight... you can still take on vastly superior numbers, but it isn't as risk-free as it used to be because you'll have to fight at a range at which they (especially infantry) can hit back more often...

It's now harder to get half a dozen lance kills while riding around in a circle, because you're less likely to impale someone when you just rush past them at an angle... or at leas that's how it feels for me...

I would say it's tougher to do now, but I would also say it was too easy before. In version .623, if they lined up right, I could take out 2 or 3 enemies in a single pass with couched lance damage.

Sure, that felt awesome, but it was in no way realistic.

Now, I have to concentrate to get in a single hit, but it's doable as long as the enemy isn't jerking around too much. Which is about what it should be, I'd say. My only complaint is that the lance animation "jumps" a bit when it recycles, and that's somewhat distracting.
