Lots of suggestions... :D

Sergeant
First of all, I'd like to thank in advance everyone that manages to get the time to read this!

Secondly, I'd just like to say that everything here are only IDEAS, and some of them might not be very good, or very developped, but from the moment it helps other people get BETTER ideas... well, my job is done :razz:

This is a particular game, mainly because it focuses on realism... but there are still some aspects of the game that are still too "raw"...

As Grigor Keoghl from the M&B unofficial file repository mentioned, sometimes the game gets a bit "static", a bit "boring"... so why not give the game a LARGE and stable storyline?

* GENERAL

-Remove or reduce load times... even if you have to make the game start with a-one-big-whole-full-complete-total
load time - I'd prefer it because the game would be uninterrupted :razz:

-Be able to be Evil or Good (I know it sounds really typical and vulgar but... vulgar is not always bad  :grin:)

-Create more factions, more nationalities

-Factions can change their attitude towards you: It'd be funny to have Dark Knights as allies :razz:

-Establish and define the TYPES of equipement. Armors and weapons, mainly

-A new type of equipments... ornaments? Like rings that give bonuses to stats or skills
(a bit magical I know, but it always looks good)

* GAME MAP

-Caravans (in-game) actually deliver stocks of weapons/armors/goods to merchants in the town. So when a
caravan arrives to a town the NPC will say: "Oh yes, we have a new stock, my dear sir." or something similar  :razz:

-Establish main roads and smaller road to towns and cities, where you travel faster because the soil is
different, and where you have less chances for being attacked by enemies (for example)

-Change the way a player travels: instead of making little men and little riders going around, make it
more similar to the way you move in battles and towns: more details, more graphic smootheness, and less
"square": it's too limited...

* CITIES

-Increase their size, and the number of accessible houses. Also try putting some people walking around.
Everyone is always standing in one spot :razz:

-Put some more random people in them! They look so abandoned and.. lonely... *sniff*

-Don't have those load times inside town, create openeable (or openable :S) doors that allow you to  move freely around town

-Castle: make it a real castle... not only a room where the castle's master is.. otherwise it's a  bit boring ^^

-Taverns: They need a tavern-like environment.. they are too empty, and too silent!

-Merchants: nothing here so far...

-Inn: Put some rooms in it, together with some costumers and people working there.

* QUESTS

-More of them! I think that is a MUST HAVE in the game! A very LARGE must. ^^

-Have main story quests, main character improvements quests (for classes for example), and then the small but always fun and useful sidequests!

-Make quests appear when you complete a specific task, or reach a certain level

* NPCs

-Dialogues: make them vary! make them say random stuff from a compilation of different sentences (depending on who the NPC is obviously - merchant, weapon trader, etc.)

-Heroes: let them have a life, a story behind them

-Make some appear only during the night, or only during the day, or move around some towns.
Some quests can be based on finding an NPC, or if not, have other fixed NPCs giving you indication on where they might be.

-A NPC friend system: IF you improve your relationship with an NPC, you indirectly improve yours with
that NPC's "friends". New quests could come from this system: "hey go talk to Mr. X, he might have a job for you!"

-More heroes! Someone suggested having enemy heroes, I'm sorry for not remembering his/her name, but cheers mate!  :cool:

* SKILLS

-A JOB! we need a job xD
I'm serious... skilled blacksmith, an agile hunter, a battle hardened mercenary, city guard, King's knight, Commander of a band of outlaws... Be paid in some, and get your own pay in other (raids, caravan robbing)!

-Classes: with classes, there would be another aim in the game other than quests, and a player would be able to get certain attribute benefits. Make lots of them, too :grin: (not too many thought, it can become confusing)

-Real life skills, such as: (very incomplete)

-hunting;
form small hunting parties from your main party, and start a battle against an animal,
where you have to find it, the chase it, then shoot or stab it down.

-skinning;
you can either sell the skins or make clothing from it, for example.

-tanning and making clothes/armor;
from the animal's skins

-lighting fires;
for cooking

-cooking;
either buy raw meat/fish or hunt/fish it for it: then cook

-bargaining;
(related to the charisma attribute)

-tree-cutting:
-different types of trees, and different applications (from firewood to building)

-mining/smelting/blacksmithing:
-different ores, combinations of smelts and different blacksmithing areas

-building:
...a recurrent topic I know, but just to put it on the list. Owning a house/castle/palace should be fun ^^

* ARENA

-Have other arenas besides the one in Zendar, each with different combat types (depending on the region and all (different standard armors, and weapons)

-A ranking system with a semi-final/quarter-final/final tournament every once in a while

-Prizes other than money - items/horses etc

-Hero fights: You pick some heroes from your party to fight an AI hero party, and compete for a prize

-Diversify the competitions: you could have horse racing or horse obstacles courses... but make horses jump higher  :neutral:

-I don't mean to offend the game makers' creativity, but the unofficial M&B repository has some nice arena mods  :razz:

* BATTLES

-More party commands

-Enable fights with more than two factions (and for example, form temporary alliances with a party for the duration of one of these battles)

-More strategic battles, but still with it's fair share of action!  :twisted:

OK...
This is what I got so far! I'll make some changes later on, when I have the time.
Thanks again for reading this (if you didnt fall asleep in the middle and got to this point  :wink:)

P.S.: Some people suggested magic, and I'd love it too, but... wheres there isn't really much realism in that...

A lot of what you suggest is currently available in mods, and I think you should keep in mind that you are currently playing a game in development.  Much of what you suggest (storyline, etc) is really best left for the final update, once all the engine is in place.

Re: loading times, sadly, preloading everything is essentially impossible.  All battlefields are randomly generated based on your location, so that's not possible.  Likewise, all units are dynamically created from a set of definitions.

Not sure what you mean by "types" of equipment, we fundamentally do.  Swords, axes, polearms, etc.

Faction status can change, though I'm not sure why the Dark Knights would ally with you.  *shrug*  As part of a storyline, perhaps.  See earlier point.

I'm a big fan of the current map system, rather than a "Morrowind-style", so I'm opposed to the latter.  The caravans, sure.

The rest has largely been suggested, and is likewise rather symptomatic of something that seems necessary to add near the end of development.  We're testing what is fundamentally a new game engine, rather than a full game.  At least, that's how I see it.  Also, as development passes, the various factions do get slightly more fleshed out.

Finally, welcome to the forums, and please search before making suggestions.  It cuts down on clutter, saves bandwidth, and helps make it easier for newcomers to throw their voice into ongoing discussions.

That was quite a long read. Impressive that you managed to find the time to write all of that. I'm not planning to flame you about search since Merentha beat me to it and I get sick of telling people to use search.

Welcome to Taleworlds, I am one of the more fun grumpy old veterans. :mrgreen:

Also, Momaw did a good job; the unofficial repository is an excellent source of information for new players and old veterans who know it all but have forgotten most of it... um... what was I talking about? :grin:

In conclusion: Enjoy your time here and don't forget Armagan's human sacrifices. (Just kidding.) :razz:

The hell you are.  I was telling people to search before you were born.

Seriously though, do it.  Its easier if the ideas are organized by ideas rather than posters, many of yours fit nicely into a thread that already exists.  If you can't find one, make one devoted to the idea with a title clearly expressing the basic content of the suggestion.

I'm not fun? Oh... that makes me sad. :sad:

Before I was born? I... ah... damn, I don't have a smart-ass comeback for that one... remind me to invent one later. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Telling newbies to search is fun and all but perhaps we should all focus on making our own posts and then letting the recruits tell us to search... now that would be irony at its finest... :grin:

Thanks for ur replies... and sorry for repeating some stuff from before, I've had some more time to search again (I didn't search VERY well last time, I admit)  :razz:

Sorry, I'll pay more attentions to the search feature next time

Now.. some answers...

1. What I meant by load times is those small times when entering a town (not so small for me, I dont know if it's only my problem.. if it is, please say so, I got to do something  :shock:)

2. About the types I mentioned, I'll explain why it's so vague.. I wrote this during a couple of days, leaving a notepad file open and coming up and writing everytime I remembered something  :smile:
But what I meant is: the armors, for example...

Light armor - Leather armor, cloth armor, etc (under the leather, padded, hard, soft, etc)
Medium Armor - Mail armor, Leather and mail armor (am I jut making this one up?  :roll:)
Heavy armor - Plate armor, Full Plate armor, Complete Full Plate armor (Here im not really making up, I just ran out of ideas :shock:)

Maybe these exist already and I just get a bit confused by the "crude"s and the other prefixes in the items' names...

About weapons, create sub-types inside the one-handed, two-handed, polearms, bows and crossbows sections? i.e.: Saber/Longsword/Sword-breaker/Shortsword/etc. Some of these types already exist, but I've only seen about one of each.

Make sections specifically for the Vaegir, others specifically for the Swadians? (in the sellers in town, because the npcs are already not the same)

3. Faction attitude:That Dark Knights thing was just an example... but it would be fun!  ...what? it WOULD :S
And yes, there are changes like, when you join the Vaegirs, you deteriorate your relationships with the swadians, etc. But... erm... I'l come up with something later  :wink:

4. The map... I never said the game map was bad, only that it could be improved a lot :razz:
and that it was a bit limited.. maybe allow the player to camp or something, little things like that ^^

Bah.. ok.. I got to go soon, so.. I just wanted to thank you guys for the welcome ^^

P.S.: Introduce me to Armagan later
*Edit* Oh, it was a joke...

That said though, it was a good post and the suggestions were pretty good. With a bit of practice you'll make a good member!  :razz:

Leprechaun and I are very much alike; we apparently both like James Bond movies. :razz:

Good job welcoming our new buddy! Why don't we promote Leprechaun to Administrator of Official Greetings? It would suit him, methinks... :mrgreen:

Do you consider Leprechaun an enemy?

'Cos I dont really like people who squish and splatter sandwiches while yelling "STFU NOOB". Unless, of course, they eat them after they torture the poor things!  :cry:

If you do, don't worry, I wont help him. I like sandwiches. And bacon. And... things and stuff.

Awww.... I'm getting warm feelings inside...  :lol:

Now! On topic!

Well, all it is doing is loading the scene. Have you tried a disc defragmenter to speed up your computer generally?

Yes, on topic... lots of suggestions needs a new title... like... lots of gameplay improving suggestions. :grin:

Most of the things that you note are either going to be implemented or are already in a mod somewhere waiting for you to unearth them... so get your shovel and get digging! :lol:

Seriosuly though I would suggest pawing through the numerous mods and seeing if there is a mod like that; if not then wait for version 1.000, by then your suggestions have a good chance of making it into the game.

Leperchaun... I'm not really worrying about that right now, I'm gonna format it during the holydays, but thanks  :grin:

And T_I_K, thanks for the suggestion, and I've already tried out most of the mods in the unofficial repository ^^

I'm kinda sleepy now tho, im gonna get some sleep  :mrgreen:

P.S.: I know it's off topic, but you guys being vets and all... I'm having some trouble installing the RPG Mod... I copy the file onto a folder under the M&B directory/Modules, but It doesn't appear on the mod selection on the launcher... any ideas?

Thank Ye For Yer Time *bows*

Sorry, I can't get any mods to work for me... :sad: perhaps Leprechaun has the answers that we both seek...)

Oh and by the way I only became a sergeant through a lot of conversations i.e. posts, if I were in the army I'd have been discharged for that! :lol:

I've only been a member for a month and a half or so; I'm not a true veteran like Leprechaun... but in two years I will have the title of... sergeant-at-arms *evil laugh* oh sorry about that; don't worry I'm one of the very few nutty sergeants here... :twisted:

Well, isn't it an exe installer? If it is, you don't stick that in, you run it. You might need to extract the files first - a zip file won't work.
