Hi, there is this guy on Lotr: conquest forums who talked to Lotr: White Council rpg Dev (the game was put on hold). The dev said the following:

"can you send me the petition that you had for the white council? i have a couple of ideas for something."

"if you go on any lotr sites, throw this back up there for people to sign if you don't mind. i want to see what interest there still is..."

Here's the link:

So here's a chance to get a new Lotr game if you guys are into that stuff, and since the Lotr: conquest was such a disappointment...go and sign!

Wait, the developer doesn't have the intelligence to capitalize letters? Why would you want him to make the thing?

The quote was from the forum member, not straight from the dev.

Anyway, EA don't have the rights to LOTR anymore

Eh... what? Isn't there already enough Lord of the Rings games? If you wanted an RPG there's of course Lotro... you don't need another. Plus the movie based games (which are basically all of them) are crap anyway. When the Hobbit comes out, you'll get another crappy movie based game anyway... don't push for more.

Lotro crashes too much for me

Lotro is a ****ty WoW-clone that should (and probably will) die a painful death like SWG. White Council was going to be Oblivion-like, and surprisingly from EA, it would have actually fit the lore.

Here's some concept art, looks very medieval and fitting:

Are you sure it's legit? It sounds like a hollow rumor to me.

He was the one who talked to the dev and wrote down something he said. I see no reason why he would have lied.

This is a message for those who are still waiting for a LOTR game like The White Council; a free-roaming LOTR RPG.

As some of you may know, I am active at the official The White Council boards, where I made several attempts to find out what happened to the game. Though I don't have the info I was looking for, I did contact some of the devs who worked on the game.

Recently, I was contacted with the question whether there is still interest in such a game. I made this petition a long, long time ago, but the number of signatures has been stalled for some time now.

Now, it is the proof we can use to prove our interest in a LOTR RPG. If you're interested, just sign here.

Sign and spread this petition as much as possible, The fate of a LOTR RPG is in the balance!

This is the exact copy of a post I made earlier, feel free to spread this post to other LOTR forums so we can get even more signatures.
I thank you all!

Not some sort of dev, A dev, and one who worked on TWC. He literally said this: (though I'd rather not post this around to much)

can you send me the peition that you had for the white council? i have a couple of ideas for something.

after I sent him the link

I find most people who try to drum up online petitions tend to be self-deluding. If EA no longer has the rights, then they couldn't legally make the game even if the Gods themselves signed the petition.

There is going to be a game called Aragorn's Adventures. A "modern" version of a family friendly sidscroller beat'em'up. Thy are actually marketing it as "family friendly for kids".

I'd rather have White Council than that.

Where are you getting that from Merlkir? Last I heard:

It appears that Frodo is coming home. Not to the Shire, but to Warner Bros. Though neither company said anything about it, New Line’s licensing deal with Electronic Arts for “Lord of the Rings” games expired at the end of last year. Originally set to end in 2007, the two companies agreed on an extension that March until the end of 2008 (the pact also included literary rights holder Tolkien Enterprises). The last game released under the deal was January’s poorly received, soft selling “Lord of the Rings: Conquest” (one of the reasons the game turned out so badly may have been that developer Pandemic had to get it done before EA’s rights expired at the end of 2008, though apparently the publisher got a two-week reprieve to release it in early January).
Since EA first got its hands on the “Lord of the Rings” license back in 2001, New Line has transitioned from an independent studio under the Time Warner corporate umbrella to a label for Warner Bros., which now handles most of its business operations. Warner, of course, has its own videogame unit, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, that has grown from a licensing unit to a full-fledged publisher with its own slate of AAA titles. Lord of the Rings game rights now at Warner Bros.

So.. while I'm glad the license is out of EA's grubby paws, I can't actually think of any games from this Warner Bros interactive.. I therefore surmise all their games have been awful console movie-tie-ins?

I wish someone decent and with a bit of respect for the source material of both the books and the movies(As opposed to EA with their Conquest D&D FPS with a LOTR skin look) could get hold of it. This is likely wishful thinking I feel..
