I found a very useful and exellent source of Greek's shield patterns used by hoplite army for anyone who might wanted to do these textures for shields add-on mods, and here are these pictures below:

Very well done, Eagle. Those will look great on the steel shield, which is basically a hoplite shield already.

The fifth shield on the 590 BC- 540 BC shields looks like a swastika made out of legs. o_O

Great idea. :D

Me, sucking donkey ass at photoshop, rather models some shields instead of doodling around with brushes and marqee tools. :P Here, I tried to make the Greek shield (5 minute job, really). If someone is intrested in making a texture for it, please do! :D

Here, I started with it already, but it looks real bad...

I also have the .psd, I could mail it if you'd like... Or you simply start anew, but with the same size as that image. :)

Oh BTW, do you like it a little? Any comments? :)

What I'm wondering is if its possible to add into the game yet or do you have to wait for the mod tools? I imagine the later

Yes, we'll have to wait I suppose... Unless someone finds out where the meshes of the shields are saved, and if they can be replaced. :)

No feedback? :( It's probably too bad.

Cool shield. As far as adding new models/textures, it's just a matter of getting the model format down. It appears to be just a list of the models (the model data with the length of the header (I suspect it's the header anyway)) in their binary format. The textures are listed in various other .rsf files, separated by null values along with the length of the next item (so 3 before the word "end"). The problem arises if the model files in the .rsf are of a non-standard format themselves. If not, it's just a matter of grabbing them out of the file. There are still some things I'm rather shady on about the models though.

Updatet the scene, my brother added a reflection map and some nice smooth shadows. :D

(heh, looks like the background colour is exactely the same as the light grey background here. :P)

EDIT:
I'd be honored to texture that shield as the first added shield model&texture for you

Thanks man. :D

EDIT2: Look, it's the front side with the reflection map on it! :P (just look at the shape of the shield, act like there isn't a modern building on a 2500 year old shield)

Alot better! Keep your exellent work and I look foward trying it out in Mount and Blade!

And I can't believe that these work I have done to provide these of very useful informations and graphs of Greek's hoplite shield would be very useful to you guys! I will keep doing these similiar kind of job, in order, to give the vast of resources to this Mount and Blade community, to save all of your time on researching to find textures for shield and armor modelling and texture jobs!

cheers!

guess its my turn :P

My two cents

thats one intimidating shield

Middle of wooden with face on it look impressive, but I'd like to give you small suggestions. Maybe you could replace that metal..ish looking at edge of that shield to old hammered metal..ish looking, to give it a realistic mood of ancient warfare?

What about the Greek shields that had those curved sides on both ends, like the one Achilles has in Troy? (that might not be realistic  )
