Recruit
Let me just say what a great game this is. Its fun on a whole new level, kinda like Total war series meets Total warrior.

However just one thing that erks me is the lack of proper documentation. There's way too much to learn by just trial and error and not enough hair on my head.
Been searching but its been quite impossible to find the answers to a lot of questions.

How Do siege?! I've been trying and trying but with no success. I've got a decent 64 men swardian army yet i get owned at every castle i siege...  By the time my knights get to where they should get to, half their numbers are gone and they always lose... And they seem to get "stuck" at first step into the castle even though there's no one there.

How do i get people to follow me? I've asked lords with +20/30 liking of me but they alwasy say no....

How do i become a marshall?

Thanks.

1. Knights are pretty useless in sieges. you need archers and footmen.
2. Become a Marshall to have others follow you.
3. Get lots of Lords to like you, then wait until the vote starts and pray they like you enough to have you as Marshall.

Well a lot of this will be released in the manual that is hopefully comin out in a few days but until then:

How to siege: become an enemy to a faction, get maybe like 80+ top teir troops (nords work well for seiges) and attack

How to get people to follow you: become marshall

How to become marshall: just get a good relation with a king and a lot of renown

Actually, Swadian Knights are pretty good at sieges - probably better than their footman counterparts.

yeah I'd agree with that. Their armor helps them survive, although it does slow them down a bit too...the key is getting a lot of archers as well, at least for me. I usually do the slow and lazy method of sieging, usually I just bring my bow and 3 packs of arrows and start picking off any enemy I see with a ranged weapon. Meanwhile my archers are laying down a fair amount of fire and taking out a good number of the enemy troops as well. When the enemy troops are weakened a bit, I'll tell my infantry to charge. Then I'll usually try my best to help out my infantry, either by using my bow or picking up a melee weapon off the ground. I can often get a castle in one battle this way by myself, although if there's a lot of Lords staying there I need some help from my Lords. Towns usually take a few tries before I can take them.

You can get people to follow you without being marshall. The problem I've been having is that my followers don't join me in the siege. I've got a crack team of 50 elite nord and swadian units but that's nothing when you go up against 100 spearmen holding a bottleneck. Of course, I've got that mod which increases the battle size limit into the hundreds. This is great for field battles but it make sieges very difficult without a lot of support. I might just have to drop that one, unfortunately.

you have to have positive relations with them for them to actually join you in battle. Didn't realize you could get people to follow you without being marshal though. Good deal

getting people over the wall: just use the "advance 10 paces" order untill the standard is inside the wall, this should keep your men running up the ramp and past the first couple of enemies. i never tried it myself, but i read it somewhere

Interesting. I'll have to test that one. I actually do have a very positive relationship with the individual who is following me (which is why he is following me probably) but he just doesn't come to my aid when I siege. I'm thinking I just may have to stock up on food and hold out till they starve or sally out to attack me and his troops are then (hopefully) combined with my own.

As far as becoming Marshall, I believe that renown is pretty important.  I do not know the actual game mechanics, so I cannot tell you what the magic number is, but based on experience I would say your renown needs to be around 300 before you will be nominated for Marshall.  Once you are nominated, it will be between you and one other lord, with all of the lords of the faction getting a vote.  It is just a popularity contest at that point, so you need to have good relations with as many other lords in your faction as you can.

Well in 1.0 get a balanced poleaxe and a bow and two sets of arrows or a crossbow and two sets of bolts.

Stand below and pick off all archers that are firing on your position. And making sure that the ladder or siege tower is safe from archers. Keep your men held near the base of the ladder or siege tower.

Next creep up the ladder/tower plank and pick off any more ranged opponents if there are any. Then take out your pole arm and approach the opening on the wall. And basically hack them to bits with the 180 range on the poleaxe. You can kill hundreds solo like this. If you get low on health call your men from below to charge and carefully participate in battle.

I can take heavily garrisoned castles like this with a 1:4 numerical disadvantage. Depending on how many archers they have you can take hugely garrisoned castles with even bigger ratio disadvantages.

The best archers are the Vaegir Marksman and the Nord Huscarl, use them in a siege with some hired blades (if you have nothing else) and swadian and rhodok sergeants (the rhodoks are a bit weaker though).

Then you get a war bow, 2 large bags of either bodkin or khergit arrows and power draw 5 at least (then you get a weapon that has a high weapon reach and a bonus against shields). Also plate armor and a great helmet helps.

if it's not a siege tower (i.e. ladders) then you stand 3/4 of the way up the ladder and you snipe out the archers to you left and right and then you kill the archers in front of you with your bow(and arrows).

After that you stand on the ladder and proceed to shoot the men in front of you in the head(aim for the where their hair would be) until your arrows run out.

then you can

EITHER send in your men

OR stand out of range and hit them with your hand weapon(you get a higher attack damage if you rush forward hit them and rush back)
