Lost a castle and village to a faction I'm NOT at war with...

Hi, I'm new here. Anyway, according to Steam I've put 85 hours into Warband so far, over the last three weeks, and I've just encountered something completely new and confusing -- the very first village I was given (Tadsamesh) when I became a Vassel of Swadia, along with it's castle, is suddenly under Nord control. The only problem is that we aren't at war with the Nords! So how did that happen? Is it a bug or something? I found a save from when it's still under Swadian control, but I've done a lot since then, and I don't want to lose all of it. So I'm kinda frustrated here. What's even more strange is that the garrison is still all Swadians! If there was some in-game notification regarding what happened, I must have missed it. Any ideas? Can a castle and it's village change hands peacefully?

Is it possible that the lord of the castle has defected to the Nords? When a lord with a castle defects he takes his castle with him.

With villages you lose control of it when the castle or town it's attached to changes hands (peacefully or otherwise).

Possibly the lord who owned the castle defected to the nords, as that would take the village with the castle to the new kingdom. Never seen that happen before though.

[EDIT] Bah ninj'd

What they said is the most likely cause... As to the garrison still being Swadian well all I can really tell you is the lords maintain their starting troops regardless of which faction they choose. As such a lord that started out a Count in the Swadian Kingdom will always have Swadian troops even if he were to join the Nords or any other faction.

That was it! I just discovered it by searching through the game log. It never occurred to me that if a lord defected, he'd take the village with him. That sucks, because I'd invested in several of the upgrades. But at least now I know it's part of the game, and not a bug.

It really does kind of suck... but it is because the villages are tied to the castles/towns around them. I really hate it when I am just starting out and I get awarded a fief, put a lot of time into raising my rep with the village and put everything I have into improvements and then find myself fiefless because whoever was the lord of the castle it was tied to failed to defend his castle....

I dunno, for me I usually can't wait until that first fief gets taken away. It's usually some piss-poor border village that's always the very first to get raided in every war, and it's usually not even a village with compatible recruits. Besides, without a fief you're more likely to get awarded a decent castle when you ask for it.

Thats why you go merc, and become a vassal just the moment before you are able to lead the siege for a town.

It's nice when it goes in opposite direction, lord changes fatcion for yours and suddenly your faction gets city or castle. And this peacefully gotten fiefs seems to don't be target of attack of previous kingdom when war eventually begins. I'm with swadian for example and we got castle near Jelkala. It's never been sieged by rhodocs i think. The same, we got this sarranid city farest in south east and it has never been object of sarranid attack while in war with them inversely to for example shariz with was taken by us by force.
