Losing renown

hiyo folks.

I have a short question and did not find anything yet.
Here's my state:

Lord and marshall of the Kingdom of Nords.
Renown: 1102 Controversy: 0 (after winnig many battles and capturing castles and so on... )

I already know, that I lose renown, when I recruit noble soldiers. But the last three ingame days I also lost renown without any notification.
After three days I fell from 1102 to 1098 (well this is not much anyway).
My question now: How does tha happen? Could it have anything to with the fact, that I sometimes had many big battles where me and my fellow lords had A much mightier army than our enemy?? (100:1900 i.e.)

Thank you!

unless i'm wrong renown goes down slowly over time.

i recall noting that back in mount and blade original, maybe it carried over to warband

Allright, this explains everything.

And I guess "doing no battles" also includes battles where I have an adantage of 29

If I've been held up in a town for some time (usually to train men) the easiest way I've found to regain some lost renown is to win a few tournaments. A tournament is quick compared to anything bigger than an open field skirmish, and earns me 19 renown each time. The 9 - 20K payout isn't bad either

I also think my renown has a limit for how much castles I own. I got to 1200 renown with 4 castles owned and it never go past it regardless more battles I joined; I got up to 1250 after battles and then a few days later it reduced back to 1200 and stayed that way.

Renown gain from combat is based on the battle advantage ratio. If you are something really high, like 20:1, you will never gain renown when you're at 1000+. When you start getting into high renown values like you are, consider putting a bunch of your soldiers into a garrison, and taking only your highest-quality soldiers (like your elite heavy cavalry) out, and go attack mercenary war bands or bandits or lords that have greater numbers than you. Even at 1200+, if your soldier : enemy soldier ratio is 1:4, you should still have a low battle advantage ratio and will get some renown.
