I was wrong as this from the Arch of Constantine, but the arch was built re-using some ealier monuments, and this very part was depicting emperor Trajan's dacian wars. So that's late 1st/early 2nd century, not 4th century source. The rest of those soldiers equipement, like the
gladius and its
balteus, doesn't look late roman at all either. The late roman sword was the
spatha from the 3rd century onwards, and it was a long sword, held in a scabbard on the left side unlike the earlier
gladius.
