Lore question:why are qualis gems needed to create an order?

No idea

Sergeant
from a purely game perspective i guess they are needed because of balance. Many of the best Knigt Orders must be created, and paying a qualis gem for them seems balanced but, from a  pendorian lore perspective, what is the reason? They have magical properties, so i guess they might be useful for many more things than we use them in game, but i dont see why a KO might need them for. What do you think?

They are very rare and therefore simply possessing them confers a certain authority to their owner - authority needed for example by the grandmaster/chapter commander of an order.
Pending another explanation by SD, I daresay you can think of the Qualis gems as the authority-equivalent of the Gold reserves of the great banks - you/the order you found don't/doesn't need to spend it to use it's value/worth.

Finneas must be the most powerful character. Rulling everything with his gems and books

Yeh, it is quite surprising that he does not use his infinite supply of Elixirs to become superman and fist all of Pendor to death

PS: However, it might be imaginable that he simply knows how to make these elixirs and the recipe requires Qualis gem powder, explaining why one gem is lost per elixir.

Yeah that's my headcannon. Most of the gem is used up in the process of creating an elixier. Finneas makes a living off selling the leftover scrapes.

Let's pretend that the Noldor use it like certain types of illegal subsances.

They get high on "magic dust" and do magic, yeah...

Or perhaps more like holy relics in the middle ages: functionally useless, but excellent for awing the peasants, inspiring the soldiers, swindling the merchants & inspiring jealousy in foreign nobles/rival orders.

Hehe, good point. I gather though, that he's just using the hero as guinea pig...every elixier has a chance of killing the hero, but he just doesn't tell you.

Maybe it takes off some years of your life expectance...but since you're just supposed to "save Pendor", and not live long and rule it...that's the sacrifice the hero makes!

Isn't it more like the opposite? Since the elixir makes you feel 'younger' and luckier, thus increasing your life span. I'd like to think of it this way cuz I'm planning to make a fic with the 'Pendor Monarch' as a villain in a game of thrones crossover. Yes, I'd like to think of my char as an evil person. My first playthrough had me betraying King Ulric and taking 4 towns with me, eventually leading to the collapse of Sarleon when just a couple of months ago, Uniting pendor was within Ulric's grasp.
