Recruit
First off, I want to show my appreciation for this mod as it is not only one of the best mods for Mount and Blade... but also got me to get off my ass and finally register in the Taleworlds forums.

Now that my sucking up is done... I cant seem to figure out how to recruit Lords... Ive tried capturing and talking to them, Talking to them in the open, talking to them at their land...and I cant expand while running back to defend my cities every five minutes...

Any help?

Raise your relation with them by doing quests. Get it up to at least 20. Then take them prisoner in battle (-10 rel, leaves the 10 you need) and you'll have the option.

Higher relation + higher persuasion skill (?) = higher odds of acceptance.  This leads to the playstyle we refer to as catch and release fishing, since letting them go immediately after a battle gives you better relations (unless they're scum) and honor to boot.  Honor leads to you being liked by honorable lords whether you've met them or not.

Actually I'd shoot for 30-40 at the minimum.  That way they actually like you once they are your vassal.

I always wondered why I'd run into a guy and have to introduce myself for the first time, and he already loves me.

Yup.  I've got a ton of "friends" and I've never done a single quest.  Having 170 honor is good for that.

And once you get them, raising their relation to you is EASY.  Just watch them get into one unwinnable fight after another.  Move in and help them.  Instant good relations.  Over and over.

Now that I'm down to just Ravenstern and Fierdsvain, I'm stepping back and seeing what they end up doing to each other. I step into a heavily pitched fight every now and again (1 lord vs. 10) and capture/recruit the lone lord if I can. Thanks to native's bull**** though I don't think either will actually be able to beat the other. I saw some guy get his ass beat, then the next day or two he had 78 guys in his army again.

About lord relations.. after you get them as vassals, there's a bug you can exploit to gain endless relation with them that I've reported in the v2.02 patch issues thread.
But the getting them as vassals part is tricky,I'ld suggest building up as much as relation with every lord you can while you are friendly with them, and grab them when war happens.

Relation from helping a lord from a war party that's beating on his rear varies with the size and strength of the parties, but I would say its not a strong method because you cant help lords that you are in war with.

Not taking lords prisoner when you can choose to or not to,grants +5 relation and honor. So you'll need to do this four times to a 0 relation lord, then capture, take prisoner to make him a vassal, tough work boy!

Taking lords prisoner that you just saved from another lord, nukes your relationship with that lord by -30,so you better watch out and do not pick this option if you are trying to build up relation with certain lords..

Just some side-notes =)

I wasn't aware of the size of that hit.  Good to know.

You will have to take him prisoner, and speak to him while he's your prisoner,he'll offer you either cold hard cash or being your vassal =)

No. Royals can´t be recruited to be your vassal. The whole point about vasselage is, there is one king and lots of minions. And the top chap won´t become an underling.

I've noticed kings just disappear from the game once their faction is beat. They aren't even in the in-game wiki anymore. You'd think something more interesting could be done with them.

Nobility ALWAYS gets the sword. A clean Greatsword. They usually haven´t had to kneel when beeing beheaded.

Burghers, common as muck and worse gets three feet of hempen rope.

Don't want to create another topic on this matter so i'll ask here )
I found in POPwiki this:
3) Recruting by Promise:The third and probably most demanding part is luring hostile friendly Lords over into your Realm. These Lords generally bring their fiefs along if they join your cause, so be careful whom you use your golden tongue on.

1) I don't get it ... do you have to talk with lord to reqruit him or what ? And what is requirement for positive relations than ?
2) Do lords join you with fiefs or not(when u reqruit them after imprisonment) ? I remember that 3 towns i got came to me with lords that joined me, though not all lords with feifs add smth to my kingdom.

Thanks.

Don't quite understand your question as you say you've already recruited some lords yet you are asking how to recruit them?

But the answer anyway is that you need to have them held prisoner and in your prisoner train (not in your castle/city prison), you talk to them about their freedom and if they have a good enough relation with you they'll ask about the possibilty to become your vassal/lord.

If you have high honour most lords will have a good relation with you anyway, but you can increase your relation with lords by letting them go when you defeat them or by doing errands for them.

If a lord owns a town or castle when he becomes your vassal/lord, you WILL get his town or castle also, ... if he is the lord of a village however you don't because all villages are connected with their parent town or castle. Some lords don't have fiefs anyway.
