Okay, So I have started my own kingdom, I have 3 cities and 3 castles that were mine before I rebelled, and I am at peace with everyone as the Vaegirs were at war with every faction except Swadia when I rebelled, meaning they were eager for peace. My renown, honour and RtR are high so I have lots of lords coming to join me.

My question is this: What effect does the lords personality have on gameplay?

At first I sent away Lord Uhun as a defector with a debauched personality as I did not think I could trust him, but Lord Karaban was indicted for treason so was already my lord. He is also debauched but I gave him a fief and figured I could indict him for treason if the personality made a difference.

I now have a martial lord, a few pitiless and a couple of debauched lords.

Will they fight with me?
Will their bad personalities stop good lords joining me?
Is there a major rep loss with other lords for Indicting for treason?

What effect does personality have on gameplay?
--Honor/debauched etc impacts how easy they will be to convert to your side, the frequency with which they loot by themselves when at war vs following the marshal's campaign, and their relations with other lords--namely who they'll be supporting for getting fiefs. There may be more; these are the ones that stick out to me, though.

Will they fight with me?
--Not really "fight with" as there is no scripting for that. Closest thing to it though--they will want every fief for themselves. Every fief. So when it comes time to hand out land, you will always be taking a ~2 pt reputation hit with them. As they get far below zero, they likely will stop attending your feasts or responding to the marshal's call, etc.

Will their bad personalities stop good lords joining me?
--I think it may impact the calculations of lords as they decide what court they'd be better of in...but only really strongly if they make enemies (rivals) with other lords, I think. Not certain here, though.

Is there a major rep loss with other lords for Indicting for treason?
--A decent one, yes, but it depends on who you're indicting. The higher renown the lord (I think) the harder the hit. Could be around 5 pts with each lord or so.

With Diplomacy, best ways to keep debauched lords happy is sending them ale/wine/oil at semi-regular intervals to keep your relations up with them. Even so, I'd be wary of giving them a castle/town for fear of them defecting. It's good to have them for their military force, and they'll be the one's raiding and racking up war damage on the enemy, just be sure to keep them moderately happy.

I seem to be swimming in debauched lords, and now my attempt to reconcile the quarrel between my only two semi-decent lords (a martial and a quarrelsome lord) has resulted in the Martial lord becoming suspicious of me. Sending ale should resolve this right?

I think I shall only give debauched lords villages, thanks for the advice :smile:

Ale will give 1-3 rep; wine 2-4; oil 4 or 5. By my experience. In any case, far cheaper than 1K gold/point through a lady.
 
Perhaps I'll need something more to get him back from -12. Perhaps I'll get the opportunity to save his life someday.
 
Funnily enough I'm contemplating busting Lord Tredian out of Reyvadin prison.
Anyone any advice for the task?

Is he held by a nation you're at war with? If so you need to 'sneak in' to save him which means you'll be fighting with a robe and stick.  If you're neutral or better with the nation you can waltz in there armored and armed to the teeth and fight you way out - without any relationship loss with the defenders.

I had trouble saving Emir Hiwan from the Rhodoks last night, I was neutral to them so I busted in easy enough... but there were sharpshooters everywhere including one perfectly positioned to headshot KO Hiwan just as we exited the prison.  It was very hard keeping that man alive, had to try around 5 times before I managed to keep him from crossbow death.
 
Worst part is when they get the sun in their eyes when exiting the cells s they think YOu are the enemy and attacks you. OR if it's night time they still think you are the enemy since they cant see you properly in the dark.

Go to Ayyike or another village linked to Reyvadin and ask the village elder to set a fire. That sucks all but one or two town guards out of Reyvadin so you wont have so many to fight.
 
How do the non-noble companions fit into all of this? The noble lords have a personality, Matheld is martial, Rolf is cunning, etc.

The commoners only have a number. It's puzzling.
 
I'm currently at war with the Vaegirs, but they're garrison is low after a Nord attack, so I may just capture the city :razz: "it seemed neater"
I think at level 36 I should be able to handle a few guards with just a quarter staff. I did that plenty of times on M&B, but its easier against rhodoks because they all had spears and could only thrust. Archers might be more difficult.

Once I've wiped out the Vaegir I may well indict all these debauched lords, Lord Karaban told me to "back off carrion fowl" earlier when I helped him in battle. He's going as soon as I get back to my capital.

My martial lord got defeated in battle when he went off sulking to Malayurg castle and blamed me! (another -1) and my ale never found him.

Thanks Puritan, you reminded me of a question: is it worth going and picking up a companion to make them a lord?
I don't want to lose the ones I have in my party as they're very valuable to me, but I could pick up Matheld from the Tavern and giver her a fief.

I believe they also have a personality. You can assign non-noble companions a fief (at the cost of a few relations).
