Loot problem in v. 0.800

I found a little problem in V. 800 that keeps me poor in-game, the party's you defeat give much less loot and the loot that comes up is has little to no sales value, for example i last defeated a party of black knight (30), in battle they killed al my guys (2:cool: and for what?. . .  :evil:ONE lousy rusty Morningstar , back in .731 you got for the same party atlast +3 (black) armors, a couple horses and some decent weapons that would atleast would fill half your inventory, or with sea raiders more than just a axe and boots but also mail, shields and stuff :?:

Are we supposed to get most of our money only by trading and/or the arenas.
or are the battle now only mainly for EXP :?:

Yeah, the loot is bugged. I have raided several caravans and received NO loot in every case. Not even a bag of grain. Kind of defeats the purpose of attacking them in the first place

IRL everything of value would have been stripped from the caravan and the dead body's in most if not all cases the body's where naked after a battle fromm looters and such.

Hmmm...

I think this could plausibly be a new feature, although not necessarily a enjoyable one.

One time i looted a group of dark knights and i got several black armors as well as steel sheilds and weapons. I think they want you to play the game and buy it and not get super good items from killing people by luck/skill.

or its a bug, but i think its a not-pleasing feature myself.

...but how the heck are you supposed to buy anything if there's no decent way to make money? Looting the dead was my number one income in all the previous versions.

Invest in slave trade, and scavenge around Zendar and Rivacheg for weakened parties (with KO's in them).

Medieval men (and woman) were amazing scavengers and killer rat is absolutly right that bodies were literally stripped naked and left for the scavengers. Everything would be taken and checked (he might have hidden something in his boots) and damaged things could be roughly repaired of even hacked up or melted down to be sold as scrap. Teeth would be pulled out and sold as replacements or even as reclics (hence baby jesus must have around 20,000 odd teeth if the relic sellers were telling the truth). If ever there was a society apsolutly fixated on recyling it was the societies of the middle ages because nothing would ever be wasted, things would be used until they wore out. A great example is the sack of constantinople by the 4th crusade. Lead and gold were stripped from the roofs of churches, centuries old statues were melted down and turned into ingots, even stone and marble was stripped from the walls of buildings to be sold on. This is on top of the items of clothing and furniture, personal belongings and anything of even the mearest value taken from homes and bodies. Scavenging was an art form performed by professionals who were truly good at there jobs.

If the game were to be accurate it give you a list of every single item the opposition had on them down to and probably including there underwear. While i'm aware that the game designers dont want that much detail in the game i hope this makes a good case for the return of lots of items to scavenge at the end of battles. Pretty, Pretty please...

I think it makes sense to reduce the amount of loot.  In the previous versions, it's all too common to end up wearing armour and equipment from your enemies (as that's who you'll be attacking).  So it would make more sense to encourage players to have equipment befitting their faction.  Problem is, if you reduce loot, you need to replace it with something else.  Neutral players now have a serious lack of income in comparison to Swadian or Vaegir players.  Possible options could be...

1) A system to allow players to "sell" Vaegir equipment to Swadian lords, and vice versa (a reward system for killing the enemy).  Neutral players can make most benefit of this option, selling to both sides.

2) Completion of missions for Factions giving you equipment from that faction (similar to The Last Days mod)

3) Reduce equipment from looting (as in 0.800), but increase money found from looting.

4) Perhaps a new "Looting" skill, increasing quantity of items and money found when looting.

Shame about the looting bug.

I think it's an area of the game that's underdeveloped.

First of all you should be able to pick up pretty much every item that the enemy troop carries, except that

1) Loot is divided amongst your party - but you get a choice of what to pick up before sharing.  (You're the leader)

2) Random chance that items are broken/battered.

3) Broken items need to be repaired in towns by a blacksmith or sold as scrap (low item value).

4) More loot carried in your party, the slower it should move on the world map.

5) Piles of loot, pack mules and so on, should appear on the battle map; and if you get attacked on the battle map your spawn point is in the middle with enemies coming at you from 3 directions.

I sure did. Especially when I was just a struggling young mercenary trying to work my way up in the world. Once I had some income, then it was time to start coordinating my outfits.

This is moddable, no? So what we're really talking about is what level of loot Vanilla should feature in 1.0, right?

IMHO, the "way it was" is a great way to run the loot. Recovering at least as much as in .751 is realistic. The stuff is there, mostly in poor condition. If you're desperate, you cobble something together piece by piece (great fun!). If you're too proud, you sell that crap and save up for your dream duds. Even with plenty of loot it takes a hell of a lot of ass-whupping to pay for the better armours. Where's the problem? I never felt like I was making too much money in .751 (unless I had the arena mod installed  The elite will have a good cash flow, as it should be, but you need to put some resources in the hands of the average player as well.

Personally, I would like to see even more loot... It's inexplicable when there is so little to recuperate after an epic battle. Likewise when you manage to scoop someone's charger during a battle only to have it wander off when the battle finishes. Would more loot enable a level two character to go from 0-to-uber in five battles? Yes and no. The old-timer who has been at it since .611 or whatever will manage to get kitted out very quickly. Fine with me. Skill and experience as a player are rewarded (I hate games where these is a level requirement for equipment!). The power-gamer that will save and reload fifteen times in order to prevail against some dark knights with 10 peasants, a crossbow, and a steep hill will also get kitted out very quickly. Lame, but there's no point in fighting the power-gamer. The average gamer will have a great time, and will reap rewards appropriate to the risks that they take. They might also get lucky once in a while and find 2 dark knights all on their own. They will then do a happy dance at their computer - but isn't that what gaming is about anyways?

The Loot skill idea is kinda fun. Maybe bundle it in with Trade? Trade + Loot = Money Grubber or something like that...

Well, in previous versions, there was a point where the economy went to pieces because you could loot more than enough to fill your pockets, buy the best equipment, and even bankrupt many of the merchants...

My character was at a point where I had more money than I could do anything with, and I wound up grinding the treadmill, stockpiling denars for nothing...

So I'm guessing that this is a "feature" designed to decrease the effectiveness of this style of play...  It's likely a tactic to make the economy of M&B more challenging...

Now, whether or not I like that is a different story...lol  As mentioned, it makes the game a bit too steep for beginners, and is also a nice slap in the face when you've just taken out some particularly tough enemy, only to find you get no reward...

I get the feeling it's a feature. If you had hacked someone to pieces, I doubt their mangled armour would be of any good to you.

The exp is the most annoying thing, though. I barely get any!
